Thank you Mike, I always enjoy seeing your comments and watching your videos. I have yet to make a double bevel negative rake scraper however these scrapers that I have dialed in right now are working so well for me I am a bit hesitant. I have a few other backup small scrapers I am going to give them a try with the negative rake double bevel. I think the term negative rake scraping has mainly to do with the angle between the scraper bevel and the work piece so really if you are scraping properly you are always at a negative or less than 90 degree angle, unless you are using your scraper in a manner where you are creating a skew with it and rolling the tool shear scraping at a 45 degree or there about. Hi Erik, that is a great bowl! sort of like a small, great bowl. Eucalyptus is a tree that adapted very well in my country, the smell of the leaves is great, in Uruguay, we have what we call White eucalyptus, which has a pretty straight grain, without too many twists, and then we have the Red eucalyptus, which has a lot of twists in the grain. For the look of it, I guess it might be red eucalyptus. Very nice video, take care! Daniel

Thanks Daniel and this is between the two it is an orange eucalyptus. We have lots of eucalyptus here in California and it is a terrible tree to plant near homes as it kills everything and makes your soil unable to grow anything due to the oils, leaves, pollen rings and berries. It is bad for wild fires as well because it is so oily that it is ready to ignite. Thanks again for watching.

Love the video. Just a small suggestion for you, why don't you take the piece that you cut the circle out of and glue it back together and put a six inch clock in it. It might look pretty cool

In case you have not done it yet, you can straighten out the threads on the messed up face plate with a 1" x8tpi bottom tap. SAFE TURNING!

How do you make your friction polish, if I may ask the secret? I've been using equal parts of boiled linseed oil, denatured alcohol, and shellac. It makes a quite nice shine, but yours seems to look so "glassy". I like it a lot. I'm new to turning, so I love watching your vids and learning all kinds of new things. Also like the foot protection setup too, as I too like my flops, haha. Just watched your vid on the empartment vessel for your dad. Awesome piece and fitting tribute. Well done, and thank you.

Sometimes the simplest of jigs work the best. Circle cutting is easy with such a jig. I have about worn mine out cutting bowl blanks, but they are easy to build. The stop block is especially important to get the blade just at the top of the arc.

Hello Erik, I love those tiny bowls. After all it seems to me more challenging to make tiny things than large pieces. Normally tiny things come closer to the eye of the person looking at it, so they'll see every small imperfection, where large pieces are best to look at from a distance. Compared to my printing experience, you have to pay more attention to an imprint on a golf ball than a large format poster. Thank you for trying the brush and mentioning me. I hope you haven't been too disappointed about the result it left on your finish, I guess there's one big difference between our methods. You are using your own awesome finish on this bowl. Although it's a mixture of oil, wax and shellac it is applied in one go, so your finish is hard all the way through. I do use a base of sanding sealer which is quite hard compared to the second coat of wax. Using the brush brush on this finish prevents from 'burning' through the wax, this leaves an even coat of wax all over. I tried to polish mine with a cloth, but this didn't work and I got an uneven shine. Actually the wax I'm using should give the wood a satin finish but using the brush gives a shine to it so it doesn't look dull. Sorry my friend, but not every method works the same when one component is changed. Keep your great work coming, I'm looking forward to your next project. Greetings from Good Old Germany Peter

Hi Erik, A pretty little bowl. I have an issue with your safety concerns only extending to face, hands and arms. What about your feet? I know you appreciate that your gouges have to be sharp in order that you may produce excellent work but if one of those bad boys decides to head south, it won't care if you've been wearing boots all week. Time spent sitting in the A&E dept. at your local hospital, isn't time spent having fun in your shop. Also a foot injury might slow you down at work or prevent you from working at all for a while. Sorry if this comment is a bit of a downer. Stay safe, spread the word not your blood. Regards Max

Thanks Max and I do wear shoes when my feet are not totally athlete's footed out. I literally have cracks that are often bloody from long days of welding and woodwork and need to allow my feet to dry out. I appreciate your concern and when possible I will wear shoes or make myself a foot cover board for foot safety.

Friction rub finish like shine juice. If you look up friction rub and shine juice on youtube you will see some videos on how to make it. equal parts of walnut oil, denatured Alcohol and shellac. I use clear shellac premixed zinseer. Hope that helps!

I have seen a finger melted through. I wear my ring on a chain while working on anything that spins. I also have been a woodworker for many many years. I also dont wear gloves working on the table saw for a very similar issue.
