Sometimes its really hard to go back to a sketch I love that I want to color because either im scared to ruin it or burn out on it half way (especially big colored pencil pieces that take HOURS/days) or it's been put off so long that it's now an old sketch and I feel like i can do better
@jessicaallard94534 жыл бұрын
Colored pencil illustrations take SO LONG!!! But I love them so... and am always terrified of ruining them lol
@thatdoodlindo4 жыл бұрын
I can relate to not wanting to ruin a sketch/drawing, but still wanting to color it. Something that I do is that I'll trace the drawing onto tracing paper and then transfer it onto a blank sheet of paper and color it there. It can be time consuming depending on the complexity of the drawing, but that's my usual method. If the sketch is mostly clean and all I'd like to do is color, sometimes I'll just photocopy it and color the copy. Or sometimes I'll just take a good picture or digital scan of the original, to have as backup in case something goes wrong. As for burn out or lack of motivation half way, sometimes I try to just finish it all in one sitting but, that's not always possible for me or sustainable 😂 I still have some unfinished drawings from yeeears ago that I hope to finish some day, God-willing. Hope this helps!

(Tips) from the first half of the video (I just look over the prompts, I'm so sorry!): Why you should draw more: 1. Drawing more builds muscle memory. 2. Drawing more makes it less stressful. 3.Quantity leads to quality.

Tip! If you absolutely have no idea what to draw or are just lazy to think of something, use a Random Word Generator (you can go on google, search it up, and you can find one). You could connect the words with different words and make the drawing completely different from the given word. Example: Word: Subject Subject > School > Studying > Reading > Book > Library Idea: Person by a window, in the library, reading a book "Subject" is very different from the idea^ Another tip is to play with different angles and learn & study from there

LOVE this vid. I've found that in order for me to get back into it, I just start with things that I already know I like to draw. I love working on texture studies. This has never failed me in jumpstarting my sketching muscles. Start with what you already know you love and let yourself go!

This is a great video, and I can’t wait to print off and use the inspiration template! I love my sketchbook, and it’s with me almost 24/7. I try to draw in it at least once a day, but as all you artists know, it’s difficult to keep this up. Last week, my family suffered a loss, and you know what? I filled about 20 pages in 3 days. I used drawing as a coping mechanism, and it was really helpful. I think the hardest part is getting over the fear of making mistakes, but I was in such a sad place that I didn’t care about the fear, and just drew things to cheer myself up. After all, what’s the point of doing something if it doesn’t make you happy? Thank you for another wonderful video 💖

Erika, you communicate so well and express ideas so everyone is able to understand what your talking about, the concepts are basic and necessary for growth! I used to have a routine for drawing every day. I have semi-retired and just do what I feel like doing, my wife does ask “why don’t you post that on your Instagram?” I do suffer from the “It is not good enough for the public“! So I get what you are saying. I know we all need to keep practicing if we want to keep a good “fist” muscle memory is a much better term/idea! Please keep creating these amazing videos and remember to take time for YOU! Ah . . . Your hair is looking quite lovely, I like the ombré! Now you will have to re-do your splash screen avatar to match! Take care and be safe!

I do have the tools to draw digitally as well, I just need to get more chargers so that I can keep them charged while keeping all of my other devices that use the same charger charged up because part of the reason I don't draw digitally as often as i want is because my iPad is usually always dead xD

I've been drawing diligently for about a month now and its safe to say that I have improved quite a bit. At first I would sweat just to get going and erase till the page starts to rip lol. Now getting started is way easier and I embrace my mistakes so instead of a pencil I draw with my microns. I definitely get stuck at a drawing. Just today I ended up spending my entire day on a simple sketch lol.

*Draws everyday and doesn't mind making bad drawings* Hmm...can't relate, but I do want to draw more even tho I feel like I draw more than enough xD I have several sketchbooks for color (for color study), greyscale, casual, etc. This is very motivating tho. I still draw when I'm unmotivated because usually drawing leads to making me motivated. But knowing that my many sketches will lead to quality eventually makes me hopeful. ...Wait, six months ago? I draw right when I wake up and take breaks multiple times a day so it makes drawing very rewarding. Fitting studies, personal art, and art to show off keeps me going.
