It all depends on individual taste. The land is what is driving the cost up. I personally love the mansion. I love older homes with intricate details. I can't stand all of the modern all glass structure mansions. I just never want to see beautiful mansions and homes this this one be torn down. I love this classic style house. I don't care for the modern look that everyone goes for today. The dark tones and woods give an opulent taste opposed to the basic white all the other houses you show have. The house seems more east coast than California and I'm from NY which might explain why I like it.
