Micah Ma’a is by far one of the most talented all around players to ever come out of Hawaii that doesn’t get mentioned enough about. When I say “out of Hawaii”, I mean born and raised not school. Creatively talented. I’ve watched some matches where even his coaches looked at him like, WTF?!?🤣 Dude is so sneaky. Goes up to spike and sets another hitter like it’s second nature.🤣🤙🏼

How is it that setters are able to think so quickly? In a matter of a split second they have to analyze which players they have open for hitting, make a decision who to give the ball to AND try to mislead the opponent's block while they're at it. Oh, and they also have to remember the height and speed of the ball each player likes.

14:05 Masahiro Sekita for the Japan team is only 5'9" (175 cm ) and one of the best setters I think I've ever seen so hight is not super important when it comes to tight balls or setting in general.
@hastethethird59563 жыл бұрын
Height is important on tight sets, Masahiro Sekita thrives on out of system/Broken plays. He isn't known as a hyper aggressive setter, like Bruno.
@liam_dory3 жыл бұрын
@@hastethethird5956 Yea very true, height is important but what I was trying to get at is that its not required. I mean Sekita has blocked 6'5 hitters which to me is insane how he can get up that high in the first place. Anyway I'm rambeling
@hastethethird59563 жыл бұрын
@@liam_dory and I agree, Sekita is insane. But there aren't many others like him. Saying that height doesn't matter for some situations is not true, height in many volleyball situations helps and just by being tall you have advantages in the sport, advantages that can't be ignored. Obviously it doesn't mean that undersized players can't make it pro, but it really is harder for an undersized player to make it to the highest level.

Awesome vid. So seems like lots of star players are in Poland these days? Are the games / contracts better there than in Russia where everyone I thought was for last few years, Well, maybe not 'everyone' but 'a few international players' @ clubs like Kazan I thought. Keep up the great videos. You've found your cadence here on KZbin
@jarem7773 жыл бұрын
In Russia clubs can hire only two non-Russian players, so the expectations are usually really high and coaches&club chairmen can be... a bit peculiar in their demands. In Poland, there can be 3 non-native players on the court at the same time (and more in the team) so there is a bit more room for foreign hires. And Plusliga seems a bit more even compared to Superliga, even if we have 304 really strong teams, there are always an additional few that only wait for their chance and sign of weakness of the top teams. A year ago I would make a ranking like this: 1. Italy 2. Russia 3. Poland. But ZAKSA winning Champions League and Plusliga hirings for this season muddled the waters, and it's possible that Poland will overtake Russia, even if for a short period.
@alfrede.newman18383 жыл бұрын
@@jarem777 Awesome background material. There's one nation who seems to be in te top 5 mens women's who I don't seem to hear much of i.e. Brasil. Would that be a case of also restrictive local reg's for foreign players too? Many thanks again
@jarem7773 жыл бұрын
@@alfrede.newman1838 I don't remember the exact limitations on foreign players in Brazil, but from what I remember it is one of the strongest non-European leagues, if not the strongest one. Most o their national team plays domestically. But they suffer from the lack of serious competition in their region and even the top clubs can sometimes suddenly collapse.
