CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Erin (Julia Roberts) not only gets her job back, but a raise and benefits too, when Ed (Albert Finney) comes to her with more questions about PG&E.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Julia Roberts stars in this legal drama based on the true story of a woman who helped win the largest settlement ever paid in a direct-action lawsuit. Erin Brockovich (Roberts) is a single mother of three who, after losing a personal injury lawsuit, asks her lawyer, Ed Masry (Albert Finney), if he can help her find a job. Ed gives her work as a file clerk in his office, and she runs across some information on a little-known case filed against Pacific Gas and Electric. Erin begins digging into the particulars of the case, convinced that the facts simply don't add up, and persuades Ed to allow her to do further research; in time, she discovers a systematic cover-up of the industrial poisoning of a city's water supply, which threatens the health of the entire community. Erin Brockovich was directed by Steven Soderbergh; Julia Roberts earned a $20 million payday for her work on the film, the highest salary paid to a female film star up to that time.

The scene that won her the oscar she didn't say a word. When she was told her child has spoken her first word and she wasn't there. Her range of emotion between pride, sadness, and disappointment all in the same few moments was truly phenomenal. Every actor should study that one scene and she never says a word.

This scene is perfection. Just imagine reading that dialogue on the page; I'd never imagine that it could end up being like this. The way she's got a distraction with the baby and is just so at ease in her own home, but still has a laser eyed focus on Ed and what he's saying...just so brilliant. It all feels so real.

She was very irresponsible at times, sometimes at very important times, and overly aggressive in inappropriate situations, but part of that is because she was based on a real flawed person; also she does learn and grow a lot throughout the movie, making it a fabulous character arc Honestly she reminds me a lot of my own mom, minus using sexuality as a tool (huge nerd, is married to her job). She's fierce, unstoppable, easily underestimated, incredibly smart and great with words, very aggressive, type A, can be extremely scary and you don't want to be on her bad side because you will be brought down, all that jazz. Couple examples include suing an HVAC company by frying eggs on the heater they installed and forcing an entire police department to go through sensitivity training
@Medietos
@Medietos 4 жыл бұрын
@@amandasunshine2 I don't think she really learns and grows, except professionally and self-confidence. Her flaws are still there, dormant, and will show up again if her ego gratification weans again. I get she is stressed, but I'd like a film to deal with and let a person heal and do proper inner work.If she made up to her boss, that might have showed learnt and growth.
