So many good points. I heard an influencer once say, “dress for the person you are, not the person you want to be.” And that has stuck.

I did a ruthless declutter and ended up buying quite a lot of pieces I let go back off eBay after looking at past pictures of myself in said item and realised they looked good 🙈. Now I much more mindful what I declutter but also mindful what I bring into my wardrobe xxx

On the topic of purging too much too quick- I almost never see “minimalist influencers” talk about this! I say if you have the physical space to store the “maybe” clothes, keep it! And see if you actually wear it (maybe you forgot about them or didn’t even remember they were there and having less actually helps you wear these pieces more!). Less isn’t always more but it can be!

Loved all your points! Similarly to wearing the wrong colors, my mother has a ton of opinions about the colors or styles I should wear but I don’t really see myself the way she sees me and trying to separate my style from hers has really helped me stop buying items I don’t actually wear outside of a fitting room

I made all of those mistakes. When I first heard of capsule wardrobe, I thought: ok, now it's time for me to get it all right - and I have to do it all at once. So I threw away almost everything I had because "hey, it's the new me" and started buying things without really giving any thought to it. I also listened too closely to what other people "told" me I "needed" in my "perfect" capsule. So I bought things such as a black biker jacket, which I now don't wear because it's just not me. I picked up gold hoop earrings because hey, it's a staple - I don't wear them because I look awful in gold. And in hoop earrings. I bought a blazer and I hate blazers. Aaaargh :) I also did not take the climate into account. I live in Poland and in the past few years we've been pretty much going straight from super hot summers into super cold winters. So again this bloody biker jacket is useless. Useless in summer, useless in winter and there is really no in-between season

Same thing in Italy. We go from summer days straight into winter. In between season pieces are useless most of the time.

Great point made, I can relate to each and every one of them! It would be very interesting if you put up picture examples of let's say the shade of pink that doesn't suit you and then one that does for all of us to see how big of a difference the right tones can make or the shiluets of clothing.. just a tip. Enjoyed your video as always. Have a great day 🙂

Your mistakes in building your wardrobe certainly mirrored mine. Learning to wear colors that flatter me rather than my favorite colors was hard for me. I also made the mistake of quickly purchasing the “required” capsule wardrobe pieces without considering if they would really reflect my personal style and needs. Thanks for sharing.

In my case being poor and not able to have a lot of pair of shoes and clothes pieces made me realize that i dont need to many pieces to be ok. Now im almost 100% transitioned in my own style with clothes that i really love and are vintage, retro or donated by my mom ♥️. And quoting Wheein from Mamamoo, i realized that all the colors looks good on me, so i just wear the ones i love the most without caring so much.

Erin such excellent points! Especially when we purge too soon and then we have remorse over lost pieces, of which I’m guilty. As well, shopping for a life we really do not live. We project ourselves into scenarios that don’t actually happen. I know I was an expert at doing that. I finally reset my wardrobe and it’s now functioning for the things I do on a daily basis. So much better. Thanks for a great video.

I did a super job of narrowing down my wardrobe to what looked great on me, especially color....then I let my hair go naturally silver from being a dark brunette (very fair skin). So, now having to reassess the browns, khakis and olive greens next to my face that I always loved. Great video!!

When I went natural salt & pepper I noticed that the earth tones do not look good on me anymore. I kept my warm brown leather jacket (I bought it in Italy so it has sentimental value), purse, and boots but not the tops or pants. Now my neutrals are grays, blues, and black.

Such great points! When i heard the first one i felt like you were talking about me, i looooove beiges and it took me a while to understand that i look awful in most of them! What i did was to stop buying tops/dresses in those shades but start buying pants or skirts instead-since they 're not framing my face i feel better in them🙂by the way you look very beautiful I don't know if it's the hair the makeup or the color of your top or if you just feel well so you look well, sending love😍

I definitely agree and understand you when you talk about being mindful when buying new clothes. I also started to declutter my wardrobe a few years ago and now I don't feel like I need to buy anymore each season...and it's great!

Great points. I work with clients on creating capsule wardrobes all the time and the very basis of creating a successful one is knowing your best colours, body shape and how to dress for it and your style personality...Without these it would be a struggle and could result in costly mistakes.

Agree with literally every one of the points.. I also am having trouble wearing my favorite color, not always mindfully shopping for a specific shape all the time, I still wish I had some of the things that I sent away, wish to have the perfect closet fast and not really matching all the sweaters to the long summer of where I live 😅 I wish all of us the best journey !

I'm a bit confused. I don't really understand why some people say that colors that match their skin tone too well tend to wash them out. It might be different with other skin tones but I noticed that whenever I wear a nude color that matches my skin tone I feel great. It's like I as a person stand out more than the actual clothes, my skin looks glowy and healthy and my eyes are shining. It's the reason I shifted my color palette towards beiges, camel and browns.
@mtralyson46593 жыл бұрын
It's because of the undertones. You can find warmer blues or colder yellows, same with a nude color palette. And you can also wear a color that doesn't suit your skin tone if you ad one that does, or bring brightness next to your face. Maybe you've instinctively found the what suits you best while some people keep struggling 😊 Trinny London's closet confessions videos have some great tips about this

I could relate too much on color's part 😂 1) Same as you are, I really love pink color. But since I have yellow undertone, I'm still figuring out and searching the perfect pink shade for me until today 2) I'm kinda have this weird love-hate relationship with the neutral color like white, black and grey. I hate white the most cause everytime I wear a white hijab or white shirt/tops, it always washes my skintone and make me look dull too much even on the warmest white 😭 for black, I hate wear that color on my hijab cause the color's effect are too strong on my face but I like wear black on tops and especially on bottoms (since I tends to like dark colors on my bottoms choice). And for grey, I recently realized that lighter grey washes my skintone too much but not on medium and darker grey. After that, I'm prefer to wear medium and darker grey on my hijab, tops and outwears 😂 3) I realized that I already have my own color palette when I'm decluttering my wardrobe like maroon, navy, brown, and army green, and surprisingly those color belongs to deep autumn type (you know, those 16 seasonal color palette)

There’s an obsession with purging our wardrobes, it’s weird. Too many people do this so that they can go buy new clothes, consciously or not. Or they’re not honest with themselves, they say they’re doing it to help people, but in reality they’ve gained three sizes and can’t fit anything. No one wants discarded crappy old cheap clothes, in reality they are becoming a huge burden on the environment and society. Choose carefully, then keep and wear your clothes and accessories. Stay classic, then your things won’t go out of style in a year.
