I’m so glad to hear that someone else feels the same about SGJ as me. I do not vibe with his writing and it was to the point where I felt like I was missing something because of all the hype for him but I finally gave up too. I now don’t pick up anything by him.

Count me in as well. SGJ's writing makes it that reading it feels like work and it's not a pleasant experience. I hardly ever DNF books but I quit this one after 10 pages.

I am with you guys. I also don't like SGJ's writing style and DNFed his new one after like 25 pages.

Yeah that was exactly how I felt after trying and dnfing the only good Indians. I felt like I had read a completely different book than everyone else. I will officially be not picking anything up from him from here on out. 😭

I’ve tried 3 books by him and hated them all so I am no longer trying to read SGJ either. Gonna be a no from me.

I think that's totally fair with Stephen Graham Jones HE IS SOOOOOOOO stream of consciousness, and I can only ever get into his books on audio. I neeed to read The eyes are the best part! Oooh a really depressing story? I'm interested haha. Those Star Wars books sound so much fun! Great video!

You read some great things! And I can completely understand not getting on with Stephen Graham Jones writing, it can be so difficult to get into, I often take 2-3 times longer to read his books (but he's still one of my favourites 😂)

I love how you did your ratings! I may need to steal that for my channel because half the time i forget to even give it rating! 😂 I also enjoyed Middle of the Night. I just bought Wilderness Reform and Incidents Around the House is the book club pick for next month and now i am scared because i have pretty similar tastes in books to you. I can't wait to read the new Ruth Ware. Its been patiently waiting for me on my shelf since it first came out. I also DNFed I Was a Teenage Slasher.

I really enjoyed Can’t Spell Treason Without the Tea. The relationship between the two tea shop owners is long term, so we get some flashbacks about where they have come from. I also enjoyed the political stakes. Most of the political stuff was going on off page, but the stuff we saw was great.

I felt the same way about At Home With the Horrors. I liked elements and I still very clearly remember one of the, but it just like didn’t work for me. I did thing Teenage Slasher was slow, I liked it after the midway point way more than at the start. But yeah, it is a very specific type of writing style. I am so curious about Padawan and seeing how White writes Star Wars, definitely need to check those out. My current Star Wars to reads are all Sith reads lol.

I totally get you about Stephen Graham Jones, but I wanted to share my experience. I haven’t been able to get along with his writing. I did read Night of the Mannequins physically, but it was short, I couldn’t get into Only Good Indians or Chainsaw, so I thought I’d given up. However I’ve started Teenage Slasher and I’m in love with the writing, I’m finally understanding why people love his novels so much. However, I’m doing it on audio. Looking at it physically I still have a hard time with it. I don’t think you do audio, but if you ever try again it’s on Everand, maybe finish the book out on audio? When I was first getting used to audio that’s what I would do, read half the book so I was in the story and world and grasped the characters and plot, which made it much easier to get into the audio. But also some authors just aren’t for us. I totally get you with the writing, I’m just happy I finally feel immersed in his after thinking I couldn’t ever be. And Night Film is one of those books that has stuck with me. I’d love to see the last 200 pages on screen!
@ErinMegan
@ErinMegan 4 ай бұрын
I get what you’re saying for sure, but I truly don’t think audio would do anything for me. I’ve felt the exact same way about his other 3 books I’ve tried and I don’t think it would have an effect on my enjoyment of the story. I didn’t actually like the plot itself of I am a teenage slasher (or his other books), so I can’t see audio doing anything different for me. I’m glad your experience was positive though!

I loved Night Film.. 5⭐ all time favorite. I read it in 4 days because I was hooked lol I also loved At Home with The Horrors.. 5⭐ I thought Natural Beauty was ok.. gave it 3.5⭐ but now since I've read other "weird vibes" books since then, I would update it to a flat 3⭐ Middle of the Night is my least favorite from Riley Sager (loved Lock Every Door, Home Before Dark and The Last Time I Lied.. still need to read the other four) .. I gave it 3⭐.. though I hope he writes another book with a male POV again.. just not make him a whiny li'l sh*t 😂
@ErinMegan

I definitely think your opinions match up more with the majority! I didn’t find the main character whiny in middle of the night at all hahaha, but I know most people didn’t like it. Home before dark is my least fave and last time I lied is second to last for me, I really don’t enjoy those. 😂

Dude! That’s exactly how I felt about Middle Of Night (have we discussed this?!?) lol! I also gave it a super high rating. I think I gave it 4.75 and rounded it to a 5 on goodreads 😸. So happy that you too enjoyed the Ruth Ware. Nothing new, but was definitely a good ride. Agree that Lost Man’s Lane was too long…. What saved it from becoming a 3 was that it definitely felt like King and was serving a lot of millennial kid nostalgia like you said. OkayLoveYaBye

I loved The Indian Lake Trilogy, but I did not care for Teenage Slasher at all. SGJ is hit or miss for me. Incidents Around the House is one of my biggest disappointments of the year. It hurts me to say that, but, yeah, it just did not work for me at all. I enjoyed Natural Beauty, too. Great wrap-up!
