What I find ironic with Eris is that for all her rebellious behavior, she is the one most enslaved to her work (i.e. her domain strife) out of all Nyx's children. Both Than and Hypnos don't just act as death or sleep incarnates respectively and are capable of building positive relations with others, Moros takes care to try and let mortals meet their dooms with dignity and actually respects those who overcome their dooms (even if it means more work for him), and Nemesis at least has enough self-awareness to admit when she is wrong and tries to treat Melinoe better. One of the biggest themes in the series is that being good at your job does not justify getting consumed by it, as Hades in the first game and Chronos in this one demonstrate.

Honestly despite the fact that there are fewer hearts to unlock with Eris, I found her to have way more of a character development than Nemesis so I disagree. (Played for around 50 hours so far). I don’t really see how Nemesis tries to treat Melinoë better, she is still so incredibly petty and antagonistic. She is the very definition of her own name, is basically our “nemesis”. Also, I don’t find Eris bitter most to the time anyway, so I don’t think she was that restricted by the title of strife to begin with. She is pretty chill, she just enjoys the chaos of the current situation

@@camelliasinensis219 The problem with Eris is that she is an irresponsible child and her reasoning for being such a douchebag to everyone else does not go beyond her being born as the embodiment of strife and her belief that others think they are superior to her, which, looking at Nyx's other children and their morbid domains, are completely laughable. The hot spring dialogue with Eris makes it pretty clear that she has a tendency to interpret others' actions towards her as "assault on her ideals" even when it's something like simply enjoying nice baths together. It's a downward spiral as she becomes antagonistic towards others and others in turn dislike her even further. That's why I said it's ironic; she is unable to do anything but cause strife by being needlessly antagonistic to everyone else. Strife can be a positive force as it often motivates people to break out of established norm and innovate. As Melinoë said at the end, it is up to Eris how she should define strife but so far, she has only embodied the negative aspects of it.

@@camelliasinensis219 Also, Nemesis' dislike towards Melinoë, while not justified, is understandable. Despite being the goddess of retribution (the original meaning of the word nemesis was the distributor of fortunes which is also related to karma) and the dutiful daughter to Nyx, she is prevented from fulfilling either role as it is Melinoë who is tasked with slaying Chronos, who from Nemesis' point of view, imprisoned her mother and took over Nyx's domain since she always saw Hades as a helping hand to Nyx in managing the underworld. Nemesis does recognize Melinoë's strength and apologizes once Melinoë manages to slay Chronos so there's that.

@@chrisneed I’m still not sure why Nemesis is so hung up about not being the one to take down Chronos. I mean, sure, retribution for what he has done, not only to the world, but also to her mother. I get that. But I would’ve thought that the woman who got Narcissis killed by tricking him into looking at his reflection until he starved would understand the principle of the right tool for the right job. It doesn’t really matter who does the job, just that it gets done, and if someone as wise as Hecate says that Melinoë is the right person for the job, then I would think that Nemesis would be at least less antagonistic. I can even see the optimal way for Mel to take down Chronos, seeing as killing him doesn’t stick. Although, that might just be because I know about Mel’s divinities.
@chrisneed5 ай бұрын
@@coltonwilliams4153 It is a personal matter for Nemesis so one could get emotional. Also, Hecate, for all her wisdom and experience, does not do a good job of explaining to Nemesis why Melinoe is a better fit for the job. All she would need to tell Nemesis is that Melinoe can get an easy access to the lower level of Tartarus due to being Hades' daughter (Nemmy actually had to ask Melinoe about this one since she kept getting lost in the mourning field) and Melinoe is somehow resistant to Chronos' time powers which even Nyx fell victim to. In fact, Hecate should send Nemesis to do something more useful like disrupting Chronos' forces on the surface/ underworld instead of making her stand on a rather pointless guard job, which probably adds to her frustration. OFC, none of this justifies Nems' being petty and antagonistic towards Mel. It just explains why she is bitter.

According to Chronos, Eris is the youngest of Nyx's children, so I don't think it's crazy to think she's still trying to sort herself out, and Mel's giving her a lot to think on. Once you work through her initial attitude, a LOT of her dialogue alludes to her being insecure and isolated as a result of embodying Strife, which makes people automatically distrust her. The vast majority of the time she's not blood thirsty like Ares, she's bored because no one's willing to associate with her in peace times, so she drags people into conflict instead. Her definition of Strife was dialed up to 100 because that's all she'd known to be effective for chasing off the boredom/loneliness. Mel being kind to her despite her role on the surface changes that - all of a sudden Eris has an option that doesn't involve causing as much mayhem as possible, and she has to figure out what that means for her definition and embodying of Strife.

@@ashec.6824all of Nyx' children have similar issues. Moros was essentially stuck in the dark with 3 Fates, only leaving them when there was doom to be wrought, and considering he's the literal embodiment of doom noone even made offerings to him - he's alone by definition, with cruel fatemakers being his only constant associates. Nemesis is clearly dealing with something as she's out of a job at the moment, blaming herself for not working hard enough to be tasked with killing Chronos despite being far more experienced than Melinoe. Hypnos is a bumbling buffoon who could barely keep his job as a welcome mat to the house of Hades because of his nature - constantly dozing off doesn't bode well for a doorman. Yeah, it's implied she has some insecurities and stuff and that's why she acts the way she does. Being the literal embodiment and incarnate of *Strife* , aka, trouble, hardship, and discord (pretty much, chaos mlp style) is gonna cause people to wanna avoid you. She's meant to cause *trouble* (honestly cute that she uses the word as a nickname for Mel considering it's what Eris literally is), but it's clear her intentions aren't out of hatred or pure malice. She's the youngest of Nyx's children, and from what I can guess, most of her actions of causing literal strife for Mel are out of "tough love", teaching her that everything's not smooth sailing, and easy tasks have ways to be made more difficult, but the least you can do is push through them and get over it. Her situation is kinda similar to her brother Moros, doom incarnate. Both can't control *what* they are or were made to be, but since Eris is literally said to be younger, her way of coping with this is by having a sort of "I'm being the monster you already perceive me as" type beat.
