All of you idiots and casuals complaining about Lara "running" need to really ask yourself this: what type of fight do you really expect the less powerful puncher to fight? Should the less powerful puncher just stand there and trade with the more powerful puncher? Been watching boxing for awhile, so I am sure you will understand that damage has a lot to do with the decision made at the end of the fight. Little bitch hits like the one Lara would throw don't count as much. He could punch and move as much as he wants but it won't do much for the cards. Power shots are fundamental, and Lara barely threw them, thus why he lost. It was a tight fight but I agree with it being a split decision.

It's funny after the fight Lara complained about the judges counting body shots just because that aspect of the boxing game is overlooked in the amateurs. Lara did all that talking just to spend the majority of the fight conceding exchange after exchange as Canelo pressed the action and tracked him with body shots. Lara had the world to gain with a win but instead gave the most tentative performance of his career and one of the most negative performances you'll ever see from an elite fighter in a ppv headliner. He fought like his priority was doing the minimum to make it close hoping he gets lucky on the scorecards, which needless to say, is a terrible strategy. But Canelo has a track record of making opponents uncharacteristically tentative which is a trademark of a great fighter.

Truth is, Lara won the fight. Taking into consideration punches landed, he easily won the fight. On the other hand because he was retreating through most of the fight, canelo was the obvious aggressor even though he wasn't necessarily effective with his aggression. Most casual fans like aggression and judges also tend to favour the fighter who brings the fight to the opponent. Lara's style is quite annoying but that doesn't mean he should have lost the fight. Plain simple fact is, he won the fight. We know Golden boy wasn't going to allow Canelo to lose. Like Teddy Atlas said, If they hadn't influenced the split decision, they'd now be known as Bronzeboy. Canelo is their Cash cow. They weren't going to lose his money making star appeal to a lesser known running Cuban. No way. Just like Lara's corner man said, They know they lost the fight. You have to watch the match closely. Many of those body shots by Alvarez were NOT clean. They were landing in areas such Lara's arms, hips, gloves, elbow, etc. Alvarez landed a very low amount of clean body shots. It can be argued that Lara slowed down because of the shots in the arms etc. Those should not have counted. On the other hand - Lara shots were mainly head shots. Lara threw 52 power shots - with nearly all of them clean head shots!!!! If we look at clean, hands down boxing - then Lara won!!!!!!!!!!!!
