Do your thing Eritrea; it looks like you are to proud to be put down by anyone or anybody. Good luck in the future and i hope i can visit someday before time is up on this earth. It looks like ITALY left a very impressionable look and beauty in eritrea; just keep up the building and maintenance and i truly believe it is the best,clean,safe and less pollutive city in africa and all of the world. Look at lagos and abuja; lmaooo. all over populated,crime ridden and stinkin up. PEACE ERITREA.

Massages for all Eritrean, Please anytime you talk about your country, just talk about Eritrea. Dont compare it with Ethiopia or Ethiopian history. You can talk about the achievement of your government and the beauty of Asmara. You have so much good thing to talk about Eritrea without trashing Ethiopia. Remember, your grandfather had fought and died to protect Ethiopia. So, please stop the hate. We Love you Eritrea God bless Ethiopia & Eritrea

a beautiful colonial legacy - the Italians certainly knew how to build a city !

Asmara was not built for the Eritreans however; the Italians built it primarily for themselves. One unfortunate aspect of the city's planning was separate areas designated for Italians and Eritreans, each disproportionately sized.

@an8707 1. Eritreans were forcibly conscripted. So it is unfair to blame Eritreans for what Italy did to you, just like it is unfair to blame Ethiopians for what the past Ethiopian regimes did to Eritrea. 2. Eritreans did not want to see Italy unite Eritrea and Ethiopia, they preferred separation, because prior to the arrival of the Italians, Eritrea (Midre Bahri) suffered genocide and feodalism under Yohannes IV and Ras Alula Abanega of Ethiopia. There's your grievance.

Ciao e saluti di prosperita' all'ERITREA.

@an8707 1. My grandfather killed Ethiopians, not his brothers, and he'd gladly do it again. He didn't love Italians, but he happily followed their orders to kill his enemies. 2. When my grandfather was in a bus, Ethiopians walked barefoot (riding donkeys was for "masters"). When my grandfather was a "2nd class citizen" (who owned his land, earned a salary and a pension), Ethiopians didn't even own themselves. Both the people and the land belonged to a few lords or "masters" under feodalism.

DjBenyam, While your gestures are fine, you seem biased towards protecting Ethiopians trashing Eritrea in every Eritrean & Ethiopian websites. I wish you could preach to your Ethiopian brothers with the same message that you feel preaching to Eritreans. Remember, after 50 years of genocidal wars against Eritreans, every Eritrean family paid heavy price, therefore, very apprehensive to anything Ethiopian, while I don't SEE WHY Ethiopians are still BRUTALLY CRUEL & DOMINEERING TOWARDS ERITREANS.

Brother, whoever built Asmara, we paid our blood for it. When we say the Italians built it, they used their minds but never their sweat n blood. All that beauty u see, the price was our Eritrawnet. Its just like when u'ld build a house, u'ld pay someone to plan n build it for u. But u'ld be proud of it after its done cus the money u paid was ur sweat. RIGHT??? Erey shikor, miss u motherland.

What a shameful report. An African nation proud of buildings built by colonizers. South Africans with modern adorable cities built by English are not proud. Such buildings reminds of the hard times Eritreans passed that time. The time of slavery within your own country. The time whereby you are kept out of fence not to use and even see the buildings you are proud of right now. Is it really a nice thing to remember? The Ethiopian heroes are building structures more modern throughout the country by their own right now. The largest dam Africa has experienced ever. 6000MW of Electric power from only one dam. Ohhh... isn't that astonishing. The widest artificial lake Africa has ever Experienced. "Building a network of roads by large scale throughout the country by your own" whereby most infrastructures in case of Eritrea are built by Italians . Building houses of European and American standard for the people by their own. Ensuring production of food enough for the population 20 times population of Eritrea. Who shall be proud? " 'One building nation by his own' or 'One who tells history of the old and foreign buildings' "? Ethiopians are sorry for not able to save Eritrean region from Italian control. Any way Asmara is a city Italians founded and built so they shall be honored. But I got a question for you Eritreans. You are poor, colonized by Europeans and politically not matured. So why do you pretend to be great and try to cover the wound in your body? "Poor family with freedom is much better than wealth with slavery" "You Eritreans lost both Freedom and wealth" " Sorry for you!!!"

Well, thousands of people lost their life building the pyramids, and still we look at them today as a masterpiece. What makes art immortal is exactly the ability of retaining a value of beauty of their own, throughout time, apart from that of those who made it.
@wendemelese1131
@wendemelese1131 9 жыл бұрын
somethingsmooth Don't make a mistake my friend. When we think of Great pyramids we always think of the ancient Egyptians not the current Arabs. The truth you shouldn't forget about the great pyramids is that, they were continuously used as a source of a building material for different cultures of the society. They were all destroying the pyramids to build mosque and Churches. We always remember those who constructed it, not those who collect money from tourism.

Wende Melese what you forget to mention is that Eritreans are proud of these particular building because, though they were 'designed' by Italian architects, it was the Eritrean people themselves who built these majestic buildings; so in that sense you are completely wrong to say that they were 'built by colonisers'. Furthermore, these buildings remind us of not only our contribution to their existence but, essentially, our hard-won freedom to use them.
