I like when people document their trips. I get to see some new country side. Now.....if people would point the camera out the window more.😎.

I dont know if this is the problem in your case, but I have seen this problem on cars and trailers with conical bearings. If the wheel bearings are adjusted to tight there will be no room for the heat expansion on long hauls. The friction will put force on the nuts and retaing washer and will unwind the nuts on the driver side. It can cause the passenger side to tighten the nuts and cause a breakedown, but probably just shorten down the bearing life.

Awesome trip…. Question: with consideration to fuel, wear & tear, lost revenue from being away from the shop wouldn’t it have been cheaper/easier to have it freighted to your shop..??
@cornfieldcustoms
@cornfieldcustoms 11 сағат бұрын
@@patrickgreen9747 i was quoted almost $3k to freight it with my LTL account, with an 8 day transit. My thought on that time frame is more time kicking around hubs and risk getting knocked over. Plus i would have had to fly out to Ca to build a skid for it and prep for freight. I hauled some stuff out with me to offset the fuel cost. So if anything it was a wash financially but ensured it wasnt damaged

@ yea I figured you had done the math and looked for alternatives to you having to make the trip…!! Sometimes you just have to do shit yourself.

It's a great and envy-worthy machine, but how does this machine differ in function from your monster power hammer? From what little I know (next to nothing) this machine's uses seem to be a subset of the power hammer. Not that that has anything to do with anything; if, in fact, my guess is right and there is redundancy here I'd have done the same as you and bought the thing simply because it is cool. I sympathize with you about all that driving. I drive a LOT too right now as I am in the middle of a big move, and I HATE it.
@cornfieldcustoms
@cornfieldcustoms 10 сағат бұрын
@@user-fu1bh3dt2c it is just different. Yes it shrinks and stretches, as does my power hammer just differently, and with varying strong points over a power hammer in certain instances. Its like having multiple hammers. Yea all hammers hammer, but some work better for certain tasks than others

@cornfieldcustoms I'm a HD fleet mechanic. They have intricate rings with holes and several other different designs. Just curious why you are against a cotter key? Hassle of drilling a hole? Was thinking the rotation of the tire on the left side is constantly trying to loosen the bearing nut, while the other side is constantly trying to tighten it. None the less your right, it shouldn't break that tab. Revloc is the brand of nut I was trying to think of. They work great.
@cornfieldcustoms
@cornfieldcustoms 10 сағат бұрын
@ because I dont want to. That should be enough. But after 60k miles and this being the 4th bearing service this is first time this has happened , so its not a common issue, could have been the manufacturers of the tabs. Also i like having the grease zirk in the axle to give a quick shot of fresh grease before a long trip. Drill for cotter pin and that would eliminate that feature.
@erock89x89
@erock89x89 9 сағат бұрын
@@cornfieldcustoms that makes sense about the grease. I hadn't considered that. I apologize if my question seemed hasty, I was just looking for engineering input. I Love your videos man. Congratulations on the new machine!
