Only thing I can't unsee about an otherwise gorgeous looking piece of space hardware, is how the energy trails from the main battery cannon's projectiles simply disappear the instant the projectile itself strikes a target. I dunno, as minor a nitpick as it might be, it just don't quite look right. Would have been nice if they could somehow just fade out more naturally or something.

Thanks for the early look and highlights. This game was already a very fun title to explore. And the more care, content, and features Egosoft add; the more fond I become of X4. I don't play any game exclusively, but X4 has become one of my staple pass times over the last two years. And the content in Avarice looks to be a fantastic and enjoyable suite of additions. I also love the premise of adding both a wealthy elite and a pirate faction with ship lines, I'm really looking forward to exploring the esthetics, game play, & story. Personally, I am more drawn to the sleek wealthy elite's ships; but the ability to finally have a brawling battleship will mean, I will chase this ship down and field many of them. Plus I like the thrown together, scrap-built look of this thing. It really screams "custom built". Combined with damage falloff weapons, and it reminds me a lot of the Minmatar from EvE (a game I played for nearly a decade).

To be honest, I kinda like it, but the Shrike was my favorite frigate in X3, and an incredible workhorse. I wouldn't pick this up in my current game (Terran-only), but I will be tempted to start a new game to become a pirate lord after the DLC comes out.

Be interesting to know the exact damage drop off values and ranges. The turret placements are odd, but with the unique turrets and their roided up damage numbers (I'd assume that approaching longer range the damage equalizes or even drops below commonwealth equivalent turret output) it's not as unpalatable like say the TEL Phoenix and even with just one XL shield generator you can at least brawl with a K or two. And those turret projectile speeds will make short work of M and even S class ships, though the small number of the turrets would become an issue once surface modules get disabled. Very much looking forward to this.

I hope you don’t have to get too close to enemy ships in order to do full damage, since they made explosions from enemy capitals do damage. And the explosions usually knock out all turrets when too close (unless the Erlking can avoid explosion damage somehow)

And if egosoft sees this.... we need a energy weapon that as it fires it increases in speed but with damage drop off. Like a Gatlin gun, slow and powerful then slowly becomes super fast with lower damage as you do something like assault a battship/station. Basically a close up hard counter to those two

Best ship in the game to me. The Asgard might have more firepower, but can an Asgard even catch it? This thing is so damn fast, it's a modified freighter like the Millennium Falcon, and really packs a punch. I've destroyed waves of Xenon ships which included four Ks in that fight and destroyed countless stations with this thing. If I had to choose between an Asgard or this, I'm choosing this. On a side note it's immune to the tide so you can fly freely in Avorice.

Kinda looks like the old xenon mothership from X Beyond. Coming from a guy that really wanted to use xenon tech in X4, I might just turn off my star wars mod to come back to at the very least VRO for a bit. The new ships in general look amazing. Interesting. I wonder what the turret damage dropoff curve looks like. Even if it's technically weaker than an Asgard 1-on-1, it looks like the Erlking will be far more effective in AI hands (because I've only seen the AI use the Asgard's main battery a handful of times, and I have *fleets* of them... and those shots invariably missed). With the DLC's new energy source, I also wonder whether the Erlking will have a special resource it needs to keep stocked in order for its weapons to do their full damage.

So I'm mixed on Tides, not that the expansion is bad, but I would like to see more battleship class ships. The X series nomenclature erks me somewhat, as I would consider the "Destroyers" (outside the Terran Osaka) to actually be classified as Cruisers. The Osaka would actually be classified as a 'Destroyer' (DD). It's just big enough to be in a line of battle, but outside the high powered Terran main guns, they are below average in DPS compared to it's Argon and Paranid contemporaries. The Syn would be closer to the a Terran "cruiser" (outside the Terran cruisers mod, which is phenomenal) So, I would very much like to see the current "Destroyers" relabeled to "Cruisers", a slightly smaller scaled down version of the current "Destroyers" to fill in "Destroyer" namesake, and then some Battleships, maybe have each faction only able to field 1 at any given time, like how the Terran are allowed a single Terran Asgard, or the Xenon are allowed a single I class. Just because the factions being able to deploy such a powerful asset to counter threats would be good, and giving them a cheaper alternative to the current "destroyers" to function as outriders would be good. The final bit, I would also really like to see the "armed trader" concept from the Barbarrosa expanded to the other factions. Maybe not a ship capable of killing a current "Destroyer" but capable of defending against M class ships, and holding off a "Destroyer" until sector patrol arrives.

I got the Erlking, done the power core research. However... i still don't have the turret and main weapon. The Dev said i need to look somewhere, but i don't have any clue. I have finish both of main Quest (Maestro & Protectyon). My rep with VIG and RIP is 20+. I have theory that we need to wait the VIG itself finish their Erlking and then hijack it again. Or look for it in Data Vault. However up-till now, the VIG still not finish their Erlking yet. And i m still not yet looking for Data Vault. I hope Cap. Collins, can make a vid for Erlking main weapon and turret. Thank you.

Overpowered compared to what? With only one XL shield, it'll only stand up against 1 - 2 Ks. I wouldn't really consider to use it against an I. Even a Syn as one of the best destroyers against xenon, needs shield recharge time after one or two xenon Ks. In Addition, it seems weaker than an Asgard, even with terran shields. Sure, if you don't want to kill Xenon or not at war with Terrans, you don't need such kind of ships.

Asgard has i believe 450k base shields. On top of 350kish hull. Its main batteries are strong but the real magic is it's lazer. Which one shots everything but xenon stations. All this DLC did was introduce a ship that isn't one shotted by the terrans. Instead, they get TWO-shotted!! What a deal!! That is if the Asgard were solo. If its in a fleet, ur screwed.

I was quite hyped for that ship, now that i see it and its stats i am disapointed. The only thing i like are the unique turrets, a dps buff was needed to make a battleship work. I dont like the maingun, the low shields and how it looks. Like come on it looks like a space garbage truck i am sorry. Asgards one shot that thing. But i really really like the turrets, i wish that would be normal stats for all turrets.

Hmm... I must say I'm not really happy with Egosofts Battlesystem. I enver was, but now they seem to make new Ships that are just twice as strong as the latest overpowered Ship. I'd rather have a Battleship with XL Turrets that do 2000Mw dmg, but have the lowest rate of fire... you know just like the old WW2 Battleships.

The biggest imbalance in X4 is the medium turret on L and XL ships. These medium turrets make the S class ships completely useless once you get your first destroyer. The game would have been much more balanced if the battleships would have required support from S class. example: S class strong against L ships, but weak against M ships. M class strong against S ships, but weak against L ships. L class strong against M ships, but weak against S ships.

@@CaptainCollins Well lets compare them to the Argon, the Argon have nothing even close to the power of the Erlking battleship. IMO pirates should be a poorly resourced nuisance with rag-tag, cobbled-together ships, and converted freighters. They should be dangerous by surprise and in numbers, not capable of fielding an advanced battleship that a major power couldn't even dream of building. I dont even like pirates being capable of fielding destroyers, it would be like modern Somali Pirates attacking freighters with a Ticonderoga missile cruiser. It spoils my immersion in the game to be honest.

@@CaptainCollins That would definitely help me accept the Erlking as 'making sense', to know that the pirates cant just build them at will. Did you ever play Starsector? IMO pirates are done really well in that game, they only have access to cheap, very low quality, cobbled-together ships and their 'battleship' is a relatively weak converted super-freighter with heavy weapons bolted on, no real match for any of the major power's battleships. But by surprise and in large numbers they can be truly terrifying.

It's not op, they only have one of them on board. Syn main weapons are still 2.5 times more damage in total.

To be honest it's kind of disappointing, I was really hoping that this DLC would bring the ships back closer to the apex of Egosoft's capital ship designs from X:Rebirth. A battle ship with a hundred turrets with no fancy gimmick weaponry, just a ship you can charge into a xenon sector with and have a proper brawl. No need to constantly maneuver the front of the ship to fire a fancy weapon, just fly in and let the bolts and plasma fly! The closest thing we ever got to the best design was with the Raptor. All I want is a battleship equivalent of that which replaces its hangar for like 20 - 30 L turrets and call it a Dreadnought class, just something more impressive...

Slightly disappointed. It's the second Battleship in the game, requires a ton of upgrades through missions yet it will most likely get instagibbed by the Asgard. Which means new ship still worse.

That's the whole point of the Asgard bro. It's the big Terran FU ship that slaps all other ships in place. Other battleships shouldn't be trying to powercreep the Asgard, and should instead focus on performing other roles better.

There's never gonna be a ship as powerful or more so than the Asgard. It literally one shots anything in the game before whatever unfortunate sucker on the other end can even react. That's the Terrans. That's why they can single handily fight against the entire network.
