There is a theory going around that the Wild Hunt Heathcliff basically manifested his EGO but does not know. It is unknown whether the Coffin or the Sword is the EGO or maybe even both.

Fun fact: Erlking can survive “Every Heathcliff Must Die” when soloing, unlike any other Heath ID. He effectively has “Guts” in this fight; the first time he’d die, he will auto-res at 40% HP.

any heath can honestly. his attack deals 100% of max hp, but as long as your total health (including shield from guard) is more than your total health, he'll survive.

That's a bit more complicated to be that simple. He needs to have more hp than skill itself can deal to you. For example if it deals 50 by itself, you need to have 51+. Otherwise you'll "res" after getting hit but die again from that "deal 100% of target hp" part.
