The happiest time of my life (although I didn't know it then) was when all 4 of my kids were at home....chaos...confusion...craziness...they were all involved in sports, activities....everything...but even though I worked a full time job, we had dinner at home, every night, as a family (I think they actually looked forward to the rare times when Daddy was out of town on business so we could have pizza or some other take out!), I tried to be June Cleaver (on Steroids), and failed...but I had Erma! I remember reading "The Grass is always Greener...Over the Septic Tank" in 1996..I got it from the library..I laughed my ass off and knew that I could do this "mom thing"...those kids had nothing on me and Erma! Lol! What a treasure she was! Funny thing, I'm a California girl, but ended up in Ohio.....I live not too far from her house in Centerville, and my daughter graduated from UD (Erma's Alma Mater), so she's been like a part of the family to me for most of my life...what a blessing! Thank you, Erma.

Erma was so gifted and still makes me laugh. Her family was blessed to have her, the rest of us who appreciate her are so lucky she gave herself and her humor to us. What a wonderful woman!!

I remember reading her books as a child too. Mom's weren't the only one to find her humor relatable. We all did.

She used my high school theme entitled " the trouble with boxes" in 1973 on am America. I don't care that she didn't write it, I'm sort of proud!

I met early in my life. She and my Dad went to UD together. she was always warm and happy to have run into use at the store. some times I can still hear her voice from across the store calling out " Johnny youhoo! Johnny!" It wasn't until I could read her stories myself that I put 2 and 2 togeter as to who this woman was that would call to Dad across the store. The world is perhaps a sadder place since she's been gone. God bless. Judy Elef

These people writing comments on here need to go somewhere else where they can get their own sense of humour-things like cussing,sex,vulgarity-anything that would not be wholesome, good humour. These people on here are way too young to even make a comment. They didn't live back then. What would they know?

I hear what you're saying, but it's not an age thing. I'm 42, so Erma had been writing for quite some time already when I was a child. My Mom enjoyed her, and I read her books when I got older. I read my first Bombeck book "When You Look Like Your Passport Photo, It's Time To Go Home" when I was in my 20's. I'm way outside of what is seen as Erma's target demographic (single, male, no kids), and I love her style of humor to pieces!

What in the world are you even saying? Can you try again to maybe put this in comprehensible English? Can't tell if you're slamming the people in the comments or the younger writers in the piece on TV, but either way, your remark seems rather mean-spirited and not especially contributory to the human condition.
