I actually noticed more players going back to SFV, and I'm really happy to see it. The "going back because SF6 sucks" is a non-argument, people still religiously play the Alpha series, EX series, SF2, SF3, SF4, and even SFX Tekken. Any respectable member of the FGC knows there's always gonna be a dedicated community for nearly every fighting game you can think of, even wierd obscure stuff. If you ask me, it's about time 5 is getting more players again. All the mainline games are good in different ways, just play what's your style. I still am an avid SF4/Alpha player

It's not fair to compare Year 2 SF6 to Year 5 SFV, because we had to go through five years of hell to get to where SFV could actually be considered good if not great. To be honest, I've always played fighting games as a casual. In 2016, I watched my first tournament and it was SFV a little bit before release. I'm from France, and heard Ken Bogard commentate. I got mad because I couldn't understand, so I started to learn seriously. I got over SF and went to Tekken in 2019, and didn't stop learning and playing since. Still watching street fighter tournaments, and now playing in locals in Tekken. I mean yeah SFV wasn't great, but nostalgia kicks in when I see some sets. Missing Ricky Ortiz, Floejisan (rip brother) and love to still follow Justin or punk. Much love.

EEhh, people are quick to forget how good the last two years of SFV were. The game was very balanced, and each character was unique. SF6 is just drive rush and parry. Every character's gameplan is essentially the same. It looks great, but I don't really like it. Then again, the game is still relatively new. I'm sure by season 6 or 7 or whatever, it'll be a great game. It's cool that Gief is really good in it though!

5 probably had hype culture surrounding the pros at tournaments but that's different than going in and playing the godawful game yourself and dealing with imbalance and horrible lag almost constantly. Not to mention 50/50 characters making it even less fun. Awesome hype for what's already happened in tournaments, but no actual proper hype for the game itself. If nothing else sf4 would be a great game to have a comeback but tbh here in SoCal it's never really died and ppl still play it here at Valle's bar or at locals. That Dio mod is pretty amazing. As for SFV, it seems pretty normal that some people like SFV, and maybe like it more than 6, so maybe they want to go back. To say that "everyone" is playing 5 over 6, though, just isn't true. Someone said it in another comment here, but the 30-day average on steamcharts for concurrent players in SF6 is higher than the all-time concurrent player count in SFV. So unless the surge is all on consoles, it's not really a thing.

SF6 is just not a fun game, simply because they added all offensive options but there is no real defensive ones. Guilty Gear works because you can get out of long as combos with burst, a similar mechanic is needed in 6 if you're gonna be able to use 3 or 4 drive rushes in a single combo. Also the auto-parry is bad, makes zoning basically useless, notice all the good characters are rush down, even my beloved Guile basically needs to be played super aggressive now with lack of chip and parry. I've been grinding to master and it's just been so boring at the diamond 5 rank, it's people fishing for crouching medium kick into drive rush combo over and over again.

SF6 has better defensive options and combo strings than SFV. All this SF6 hate is what I warned about years back. The FGC has been so coddled by dumbed down and easy ass input fighting games that when a fighting game comes out that takes more effort to get good at they get mad, but its mostly the younger gen that didn't grow up with real fighting games like us older guys. This actually highlights the problem with society in general, everyone has become too lazy nobody wants to work hard to get good at anything in life, everyone wants an easy button.

@@Nazarus1983 Punks ascendancy? Tokidos EVo win against Punk stands out. IDom's ascendancy? Mena's ascendancy? The format of CPT alone was infinitely better than what we have now - it was more like a tennis circuit where the best players matched up every few weeks so we got to see so many rivalries build and so many hype moments, whilst also having 1 or 2 local heroes shine amongst great competition. Definitely wasn't perfect but what we have now is a worse product.

The core game was trash. The candy sprinkles of costumes and patches that sometimes nerfed and buffed random garbage or left low tiers to rot was not enough to save it. Tekken 8 owes it's existence to SF5 because without it's failure T7 would have been the last major Tekken game for years.

@@andrewadhiatma7037 SFVI is a much better fighting game at its core than V, but it is taking noticeably longer for characters and costumes to be released. While that may not have as large of an effect on you, it does deter those without their mains or people who are used to frequent updates in modern multiplayer games from sticking around. Capcom made the decision to cater towards avatars with their content delivery system, which might be some people's cup of tea, but has near-universally been questioned and panned by those that just want enjoy the "actual" game. Trust me when I tell you that a lot of people are simply waiting for the game to have more content before they come back; most of my locals are like this.

For me personally, SFV offers more character variety/player expression and was far more focused on a slower pace, with a heavy emphasis on time spent in neutral in the last few years. The game really came into its own at the end. Still not perfect, but it offers a very different experience to SF6's more one-note, high paced, rushdown focused style. To be fair, it was only at season 3 that SFV BEGAN to get better after its awful start. There's still time for SF6 to evolve and grow.

As someone who played a lot of 6, I was really rusty and my Bison muscle memory has all but disappeared after playing him in 5 and 6, but my friend was still on point with his plinks and wiped my ass with his Cammy. I liked SFV more then SF6. I think its a mix of "new game bad, old game good" phase that always happens as well as people genuinely sick of SF6. SF6 hasn't changed at all since the beta tbh the game has also repeated a lot of the mistakes of SFV (throw loops, easy to put in guess situations)

Before I get into the video. Alot of 09er youngsters hated SFV but at season 2 it became pretty fun. I dont really care how they have to cope with it. I like SF6 but other people really hate drive and now want to go back to a playable game without it. And thats fair enough. Sf6 is fun but when you start trying to play any game competitively, one small thing can be the thing that makes or breaks the game for you. At the end of the day most people don't care for the mechanics (namely drive rush and perfect parry). It's not about "old game good" a lot of people are fed up of losing to these same things and prefer when games rewarded you for other things. I personally always liked how Street Fighter, above all other fighting games, rewarded good defense and patience, not just landing combos, there are plenty of games that are combo heavy, you can all talk about footsies and neutral all you want but you can't argue that Sf6 rewards landing a lucky hit way too much. Well, you can and you will lol I already know from experience that someone will reply telling me that it's a "skill issue" "get good" etc like this isn't just heads or tails. It's OK to like these games but understand that most people don't want Street Fighter to be like this since there's already more than enough games like that.
