I don’t know of ANY other band where the guitarist is the most underrated musician in the band. And he’s easily the most talented member.
@famouslastwords0791HR
@famouslastwords0791HR 4 жыл бұрын
Do you know why? Because he's not underrated he just sucks. Guitar players always grab a ton of attention in rock/ metal bands. They usually make solo albums to express things they can't in their band. But even if they don't, they are right up there with singers as being focal points of the band. Except with MC it wasn't like that. It was all about the other 3 guys. Because Mars had nothing going for him. Why do you think Nikki was always looking to replace him? I believe he approached Demartini and Lynch, among others because they could really play, not just use the same tired blues scales for every fucking "solo". And because they had "the look" that fit much better with the band. Why do you think Mars was always on the end of the line in band pics? Cause half of their success was the look of Nikki. Tommy and Vince. That's what the teenaged girls wanted not Mars. He was NEVER, NOT ONCE, included in any list of great guitar players of the 80s or any other time, as far as everything I've read in 30 years. If you like him that's fine. But let's not create a rock guitar hero from a guy who his own band wanted gone.

I read an article that Mick may get surgery to be able to turn his head. He explained it as them chipping away the bone. He said it would eventually grow back, but it would give him some yrs. (idk how invasive it would be tho 😕). I’d love for him to be able to drive again, if only for a little while. But honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Mick roll out on stage in some bad-ass revised standing wheelchair in the future. ❤️

As a former musician myself I’d like to say that every member was just as important.Being super successful like them is something where every single thing matters from the members involved, the creativity that comes from those 4 members being together and the right management. Mick and Sixx were definitely the more creative minds from what we know. Even if Vince never wrote one lyric he brought his voice, stage performance and looks which is huge, tommy brought amazing drumming ability yeah other drummers can easily play his stuff but those drummers wouldn’t have played the same memorable stuff. If it was just mick and Sixx I bet they definitely could have been successful but not on the level that the Crüe became. This is something a lot of people don’t think about or understand unless you are a musician yourself and many musicians make this mistake. Often when you have 4 members in a band everyone argues when creating music, that arguing creates tension and generally better music. When bands kick out members over creative differences they then get members that don’t put up a fight when creating mucus or they just use touring musicians. Well now that they always get their way when creating music the music tends to suffer and be too tame. This isn’t always the case but it happens a lot then the members realize that they need those members they fired because they help give the songs attitude and emotions. Some changes that seem relatively small can change a band completely.

I get where he's coming from. I mean look at what happend when John Corabi stepped in, and the album didn't do so well. Also because they wanted Vince back. But they didn't like the change, a lot of the fans found it too "heavy". Some fans can't stand change somehow and will always compare it to their old stuff. The album with John Corabi is one of my favorite albums if not my favorite. And I think if they would have brought the album out under a different band name the album would have done better.

I've looked up to this Man for years and years! He is THE BEST GUITARIST THAT EVER PLAYED imo. I was completely devastated when I learned he had AS (Ankylosing Spondylitis), a name a knew all too well. My beloved Uncle had it. Then one day we were told our middle daughter had AS. My Uncle had passed the year before she was diagnosed (@15yrs old), I was way too young to remember the early years of when he had AS. I took a big chance and reached out to Mick. Maybe he could give me some advice on how to help her as best as possible. I was blown away when I seen I had a reply. Mick not only responded within 2 hours of me sending my message to him, he gave me the best advice in helping her. My love for this man grew deeper. Mick is truly a badass and that is still an understatement. I wish with all my heart and soul they could find a cure for AS so that Mick, our Daughter and all affected by this beast didnt have to deal with what they do on a day to day basis. Mick Mars you came into my life when I was just 13 listening to you rip each song on the album Shout At The Devil, I've been blessed to see you live 3 times, and further blessed by knowing what many dont know--what a huge heart you have. It was Nikki's punk and glam rock influences and Mick's traditional 60's guitar hero influences (Beck, Page, Clapton, etc.) that made the Crue the Crue. I love Mick, but another man was needed to create that Crue sound and attitude. And when Mars says he auditioned "them," he wanted to see that they weren't some kind of joke band. There were so many skinny tie bands like the Knack in L.A. at the time. Mick hated that crap. Another thing that separated the Crue from the joke bands that followed the Crue like Poison, Cinderella, etc.,, were the lyrics. For every song like "Ten Seconds To Love" there was "Danger." For every tune like "Girls, Girls, Girls," there was "Primal Scream." Nikki's lyrics, unlike so many hair metal groups of the 80's, addressed serious subjects.

Mick Mars is possibly one of the most underrated guitar players ever. Whenever people talk about "Best 80s Guitar Players" they only say guys like Kirk Hammet, Dave Mustaine, or Jeff Hanneman. They are indeed great guitar players in their own right, but Mick Mars I believe deserves to be mentioned more in the conversation of greatest metal guitar players ever. His riffs are memorable and he is a damn good solo shredder. His guitar added a sense of danger, edge, and grit to Motley Crue that many glam metal bands lacked.

sadly that Strat he's playing is a terrible relic job. I may be wrong, but I've never seen a real worn guitar with the finish gone in the middle, above the pickguard like that. Not saying he's a fake or anything but I've been a crue fan since before the US festival and I've seen their live show maybe 5 or 6 times over the years and Mick really doesn't normally touch the body anywhere near that spot? Plus most of his popular live stuff was done on an LP, and/or a Charvel fitted with a Floyd.

This is so great to see! I don’t think I have ever seen him speak on camera in all the years I’ve been following his band. I bought the first album right when it came out. I’m happy to see him working and pushing forward. He is an inspiration. Go Mick!

Huge Respect for Mick, never any drama, always on top of his game as a player, older wiser and has been around long enough to be inspired by all the greats, an awesome guitarist in his own right, looking forward to hearing his solo project, I have a feeling it will be more of a Blues based hard rock sound from which he was schooled.

Been a huge fan of Mars for 32 years. When Decadence came out in ‘91, Nikki and Mick were on the radio and I’ll never forget Mick said he’s never been on the cover of a magazine by himself. The DJ said no way that can’t be true. And Mick said you show me one bud. Truth is, he probably still hasn’t. People didn’t started speaking highly of Mick until he came out in their autobiography the Dirt and admitted his back was fucked up. Personally, I hope he lives forever. His music certainly will.

Motley fan since the 80s here, around the time Girls came out, I used to buy the metal magazines every week, or month, and I remember one of those magazines mentioning that he had Ankyolosing Spondylitis. Don't remember which one, but I didn't know what his condition was (no internet yet), just it was a strange name.

Saw Mick with the Crüe years ago in Tampa at the amphitheater…. Nikki, Tommy and Neil we’re all over the stage in typical fashion but I stood there in the 5th row absolutely transfixed on Mick and his left hand. So rock solid and cool. He shot me a smile midway through the set… definitely one of my best live concert moments!!!! 🤟🏻

Agreed. Mick Mars is a criminally underrated guitarist. The depth in this interview does not surprise me. He always struck me as the George Harrison of heavy metal -- the quiet, more introspective, more musically curious and adventureous guitarist of his age. Always searching, always fine-tuning, always refining. Long live the Man From Mars!

His playing always had that cool “growl” sound that I just couldn’t figure out. I can’t think of another player who has it. I’ve tried different amp and distortion combos but I guess and they say “it’s all in the fingers “

@HoseTheBeast

Yeah you can definately hear Micks tone change a bunch from the early crüe albums to the later ones. For Dr. Feelgood they had a full wall of amps that they used to get as big of a sound as possible. And when they ran out of the marshalls they even took the clean Fender amps and stuck screwdrivers through them to make them distorted😂 just a fun fact
@arcgamer8688
@arcgamer8688 4 жыл бұрын
I tried recreating that Harley engine growl of his guitar. I think you can get pretty close by using a fender strat(prefferably with humbuckers,but mine has single coils) with a marshall amp on pretty high gain,but not max, and a distorsion pedal also with pretty high gain. It sounds close and i can hear that growl and that "sparkle" that 80s guitars had.

One of the things he does is instead of stringing his guitar normally, he basically puts two e strings instead of a normal sixth and fifth string, and then tunes it up to normal, but that string thickness gives the guitar a much heavier sound. so basically get a pack of ten gauge and get an extra e string.

Mick Mars is a living legend. A monster of iconic riffs and solos. When he bursts into his aggressive solo something happens. He can easily steal the spotlight. He's a musical powerhouse. He's got his unique incredible style, his tone and sense of rhythm is totally phenomenal. Though he's reserved on stage he's truly wonderful live. He always nails his raw driving solos to a tee! He's one of the kind! Mick is a huge inspiration to me. Every solo of his is hauntingly beautiful, riddled with magic. It's such an honour to live with such musically talented and down to earth guy. Besides agonising pain, health issues Mick still goes strong, doing his favourite thing. He's a real trooper.
