I love seeing this performance. Thanks for posting it. Ernie was a top-ranked heavyweight, and did well in his post-boxing life. I saw Ernie Terrell and the Heavyweights with Ike and Tina Turner in Michigan. It was a great show.

MS JEAN TERRELL would later step in to replace Diane Ross on THE SUPREMES in the 1970's (Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong, Jean Terrell) and what a realization and breath of fresh air she was. She brought to the group new energy and diversified sounds. Songs like "Up The Ladder To The Roof", "Everybody's Got The Right To Love", "Stoned Love", "Nathan Jones", "I'll Guess I Miss The Man", "Floy Joy", "Bad Weather", and THE SUPREMES & FOUR TOPS rendition of "River Deep, Mountain High", another Billboard Top #20 Pop Hit. Jean Terrell shines SUPREME :-)

Very cool! And great to know that sister Jean, who went on to replace Diana Ross when she left The Supremes in 1970, appeared on the same Hollywood Palace before then, that Ross and The Supremes appeared on several times.

Wow! I had no idea Ernie was so musically talented! He and his sister Jean both! Definitely underrated as a fighter, too! He beat most of the big name heavyweights of his time, but unfortunately is mostly remembered for the Ali fight. Ernie's left eye was severely damaged early in the fight which contributed to the battering that he took for 15 rounds. People forget that...But he did go 15 rounds with Ali during Ali's peak. Worth remembering.
@ReinaldoKyesse8 ай бұрын
His eye was damaged because of all the punches that he took, although he tried to come with an excuse that he got thumbed. It was 15 rounds of pure beating

A great performance by a professional boxer and a future Supreme. Ernie Terrell and his sister Jean did well on the Hollywood Palace with Jack Benny as guest host.

That performance on the Hollywood Palace of Ernie Terrell and his sister Jean is very awesome. It’s also Jean’s early performance before she became the lead singer of the Supremes replacing Diana Ross.
@step3892 Жыл бұрын
No wonder Gordy wanted her to replace Diana if this is how she looked and sounded when he first saw her! She's amazing and has that special unique "Supremes Sound" and visual "Presence".

Great voice and seemed a real nice guy. He could sing but he couldn't dance in the ring with Ali. This video is telling of the resentment Ali faced at becoming a Muslim and changing his name - the crowd laughter at the presenters jokes. He was vindicated in the end - Ali the Champ!

TALENTED, BUT WHAT HIS ISSUE WITH BROTHER ALI CONVERTING TO ISLAM IN THE 1ST PLACE?????!!!!!!!!!!
@sonyaminnis3212 Жыл бұрын
Let me set the record straight because I get tired of this comment. Ernie never took issue with his religion. He had known him since they were kids and was simply riling him up by calling him the name he had always known him as. It wasn't some political refusal like the media played it up to be. It was as simple as that joke in Coming to America "His mama named him Clay, I'm calling him Clay." It was an old friend teasing how now that he was a big shot he wanted to be called something else. Now did Ernie pay for it? Yes. He angered Ali as we know and that's fair. But again he didn't take issue with Islam.
