ERODE Junction : Complete Loco Interchange Sequence EMD WDP4D To WAP4 12677 Ernakulam SF

Traveling and seeing places is my passion. I am also very fond of Photography, Video filming and capture during my travels. Like to share my experience with the KZbin audience. Here is my travel video captured at Erode Junction of Locomotive interchange from Diesel to Electric. The train is 12677 - Bangalore - Ernakulam Superfast. The incoming WDP4D belonging to GOC ( Golden Rock Shed ) is replaced with a WAP4 Electric Locomotive from Erode Locoshed.
Erode Junction railway station (Station Code: ED) is the main railway junction serving the city of Erode, Tamil Nadu. Erode Junction is one of the major railway Junction in Southern Railway and is located near Erode Central Bus Terminus. There is an ISO certified diesel locomotive shed and an electric loco shed attached with Erode Junction. The station was established in 1862 and was connected by the first electrified broad gauge link from Chennai Central.
Erode Junction loco shed is one among the very few stations in India which houses both diesel and electrical locomotives. Erode loco shed currently houses 350 electric and diesel locomotives,[1] making it one of the largest loco sheds operated by Indian Railways. The ISO certified electric locomotive shed houses 100 WAP-4 locomotives in addition to the WAG-7 electric locomotives and 4 WAP-7 Locomotives. The diesel loco shed set up in 1962, houses over 120 WDM-2 and WDM-3A, 11 WDP-4D, 11 WDG-4 (Only GT46ACe wide cab versions) diesel locomotives. The trains passing through Erode junction often have a long technical halt in order to carry out engine swapping and maintenance checks.

Inspite of big junction why there are less originating trains in erode?

Terminating trains are decided by the Voulme of Traffic. Railways generate what is known as KPI ( Key Passenger Indexes ) which would give them an idea about what kind of traffic flows through Erode. I am sure SR would miss an opportunity to start a train if it is warranted. Even Salem does not have many Originating trains!.

@@amazingrailways9441 sir I never knew about these index at all. I thought more terminating trains at Coimbatore so only thought that erode and Salem has less.
