Our world is full of high performance cars. Ferrari, Porsche , Lambo ET AL. but swear to my god NOTHING beats the thrill of an Alpine descent on a Steel Vintage Italian, or Spanish racer, thin tyres, half crap brakes, you had to limit your braking B4 your inner tubes burst due to the heat generated, Halcion days, great vid!!

The old bikes look great! There was a day when people didn't appreciate a bicycle enough, still room for improvement on that I think, so many think they are to busy to get to know the greatest invention ever. Be well.

Vintage? Those bike are what I rode (and still do) from the late 50's and on. Still new tech to me! As always, the great music and Ms. Cools are the real stars of the show. Thanks Henry!

I missed breakfast this year in order to get to the start on time. From there I was on a mission to get to Paso Robles for a full self-supported lunch at the taqueria! I watched your tour video so I knew exactly where I needed to go! None of the other routes actually went through Paso Robles, so they were relying on the rest stops for meals. Hopefully, the ride organizers are receptive to feedback.

A couple of things: this is one of the better Eroica videos out there (and there are a lot); this is a different video from last year and IMHO a better one; you are hardcore for doing it this year right after your trip to the Portland; and Ms. Cools could have done the ride on her bike even though it's not vintage (but she must have wisely avoided the early wake up).

Well done! For those who don't know the routes or the stops, the Heroic ride (110 miles nominally) started in Cambria, south on Hwy 1 to Cayucos (not shown), then east on Old Creek Rd to Santa Rita Rd / mountain and Summit. Then down to Templeton and eastward inland to Olea Farms (shown very briefly - the checkered tables for sit down food - Olive oil fries, yum!), then looping northwesterly to Cass Winery, then Kiler Canyon climb. Then on to Halter Ranch Winery (the white barn stop - as he is leaving, I spotted my Italvega on the bike rack with my black shirt on top drying out), then out to Klau Mine Road and Cypress Mountain climb to the summit, and a sphichter puckering 2000' 13 mile descent into Cambria to complete the ride. There's a number of other videos of this year's 2019 Eroica California as well as past years too so look for them. Had a great time and will be back, next year's Eroica California dates are already out, April 3-5, 2020 in Cambria. See you there!

As most of you know, Eroica California was postponed due to the pandemic, but now rescheduled for Sept. 12, 2021, again in Cambria. If everything goes well with California's vaccination efforts and public health interventions, Eroica can be held in 2021. Please stay healthy, get your vaccinations, wear a mask, and hope to see everyone there!

My dad had a Bianchi much like this, although I suspect some differences. It originally had Fiammetta red label rims. But when he passed it on to me in the 90s, I swapped the wheels out for 700c ones - setups are too much trouble and expense.

Nice jersey but what s the significance of it to have on this ride? Curious minds....
@Henrywildeberry5 жыл бұрын
It was a vintage wool team jersey from the 70's or 80's? Last year I didn't have a vintage jersey, so I wanted to get into the spirit of the ride this year and went online and found this for sale on eBay. I was actually looking for something in the 40's to 50's era, but then it wouldn't have matched the era of my bike. I settled for this one. It was very nice of Doug to go to the trouble of picking it up for me.
@leestimson125 жыл бұрын
@@Henrywildeberry Very cool. Just about a month ago I found a 70s era Fuji jersey and cap on Craigslist from the original owner. That was great for me since I'm building a 70s era Fuji Finest with all new modern parts and will wear them on the inaugural ride this summer.
