@noobker3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Damn this was awhile ago, haha I think I was either using Toneforge Ben Bruce or Toneforge Jason Richardson
@garyfornow5423 жыл бұрын
I have also been frustrated with tone. I am not a good guitarist so just to get that out of the way. But I am a smart fella, sort of and learned a lot just in the past month or so and for the first time in my life I got a tone that to me was dead nuts to what I was going for (a tone to play All New Materials and The Way the News Goes - both tunes are by Periphery). I am so blown away with it I actually might even make a video for it here on YT - I have zero videos, not my thing up to this point. Here are a few things: Ready, it's a lot of words but all straightforward and I really think you will find it worth the 5 minutes time. Oh, before you read my schtuff I want to say this guy frickn NAILED this song! Such a great fuckn song, man it is really moving to me, it is a summer kind of sound but lyrics that bit me in the ass and made me feel like shit! So I am really happy to see someone covering it and doing it this awesomely! And yes, I am late to the party but that seems to be my life's theme... I would be super happy if I could ever get this one down. You probably know about Neural DSP VST's - if not look them up, next to Axe-Fx tones they are the best sound out there. If you like real amps so do I but can't afford, neighbors suck, etc... If you have a few bucks the Neural stuff is worth it. Also there is a guy that goes by Nalex that is making donate-ware amps that are really really good, actually when I record I can easily get mixed up between the Neural tones and the Nalex ones - they are that good. Check out the Ninja, the Crunchman, the Pectifier, etc... all of his stuff sounds great. Learn how to use a parametric eq to cut nasty sounds out of your tone. a compressor can help a bit. A good noise gate is critical! I really like a free one from GVST. A good overdrive is helpful, I like the free one from Nembrini and the free ones from STL tones. And finally you will need IR files and and IR Loader if you go with Nalex - which you can choose to use with the Neural stuff if you want but Neurals IR's are already great and they actually already have IR's from ML Sound Labs in some of their VST's. Use the NadIR loader from STL tones. Again this one is free and again seems as good as anything paid and I have some expensive IR loader/IR file sets that from what I can tell are not any better than the NadIR. Search for "The best IR in the World.wav", not kidding this is the name of the file from ML Sound Labs - he makes really great IR's but only that one is free. But watch is site he has good sales often enough and a good IR pack is only about $20. Yes it is only one tone but trust me - if you like DJent and progressive rock you will be able to join in with just about any song. Try to resist tone chasing, it is a waste of time and your time is better spent practicing or learning a new song. What's left, only the most important part... sorry for this but I have to agree that "the tone is in the hands" is a big factor. A bitter pill for me to swallow. The ability to control the guitar, no unwanted strings ringing, no sympathetic tones, dead nuts accurate timing, perfect bends, etc. This is all so easy to mess up on your own, if you are like me you are anxious to get playing a new song, don't have a lot of time to practice, etc... I have to say: this changed my tone from embarrassing crap to awesome for real. A tough lesson to learn as I have been playing for frick'n-ever and have only ever been as good as OK at best.. let's just say that I wouldn't put my playing on YT. To get this done I used a scientifically backed practice technique to improve my skills at the above that I came across at work actually in a lab environment testing how people like athletes and musicians get their skills! Lucky, right place right time. And in only a month or 2 my and not requiring a lot of hours of practice or repetitive scales, etc... everything completely changed. Sounds like a bullsh!t commercial but I am not selling anything... yet. (ha!) A tough lesson but not much I can do to change all that wasted time! And I am finally starting to be able to play things I truly thought were forever off the table for me. Bonus! Geez take a minute to tune your guitar - and I mean really tune it. This is FREE TONE. Use a good tuner that can measure the tone in CENTS. get within a couple cents on each string. A properly setup guitar WILL hold tuning so if your tuning goes out it needs to be fixed. I use the tuner inside of Reaper. Finally intonate your guitar, this is really important and it is easy to to, really and not much chance to hurt your guitar. Look up some instructions, loosen your strings each time (perhaps not necessary but I am into keeping things mint). Let me know what you think of all of this, I really hope it helps! And I have a sh!t-ton more great amp VST's if you are interested, one of the vendors goes by Vadim Taranov, not bad stuff and awesome for the price.
