I completely agree with you guys. I think the problem with doing a feature on this record is that every song is perfect, so there's just no need to add anything to it. It was a fun little feature at the very least! Also, I listen to this record front to back almost every day. AOTY for me 100%.

Had to comment again, I can’t stop listening to this album but especially this song. This song might be as close to perfect as it gets for me personally. Beautifully written and executed flawlessly. It hits everything I want in a song. Clean vocals that make you feel something, heavy vocals that are placed perfectly and are a great tone, and musically it’s simple at times and technical at times all while flowing seamlessly and creating and absolutely wonderful experience.
@savagewraith3 жыл бұрын
JT's heavy vocals are getting close to sounding like Jake from August Burns Red's and I am here for it. I love all the returns to form we are seeing in the metal core scene this year. Really therapeutic after such a hectic past year or two.

Been a fan of ERRA for a very long time. Always underrated as a band and Jesse as a musician. You guys loving the bass lines in the this song? That's all Jesse. He wrote and recorded all the guitars and bass for this album. Obviously still respect to Sean and newcomer Conner because they need to be able to play it live. As for the general underutilized Courtney in this song, I think it is just game-recognize-game and helping to promote each other and not so much for the actual creative addition to the song itself. ERRA now being on a larger, respectively, label of UNFD probably was given support to put this single out 7 months after the album released to try and get it back in the cycle. In addition to give some love to Spiritbox since their album, with a lot of hype behind it, just came out; even though they are on different labels.

At the very least, I wish they had extended Courtney's part through the end of the song and had her vocals layered in with the "we are waking up out of this coma" outro section, either playing off of or replacing JT's screams/cleans. That part is so epic and I think it would have served the song better since she was towards the end of the song anyways.
@AndrewFifield3 жыл бұрын
I recognized her vocals as soon as she came in, but it sounded so natural, I was wondering if she didn't sing in album version as well. Had to double check. I think if she had sang more and/or been visually featured in the video, it would have been a little more unique.

Man, I didn't think this song could literally be any better but then they go and include Courtney like wtf. Her entrance gave me chills, but then when "Constellations" hits, with all 3 of them?.. it shook me. To the damn, *core*. I think the only way they could've done it better is if Courtney came in with one of JT's sections, but also the last verse but I think that's just asking for too much. Either way, this is still one of my favourite songs ever, definitely of the album.

@nappucentertainment30043 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I think having the female voice itself on the song adds another layer of timbre to overall sound. Objectively, it's another level of frequencies that mesh well. I do wish they added her more in to the rest of the song. I think her being the harmony lines to Jesse could have been a really great way to add that tension of male and female voice fighting together. I think a great example is MGK and Halsey with forget me too. I think execution-wise that is how they should have used Courtney's voice here. You could have added her screams too, but Jesse has always been the icing on the cake for this band. It'd be the equivalent of how Spencer from periphery does his harmonies. Jesse with the rasp and grit in that register, Courtney with the ethereal cleans to compliment the other end of Jesse's grit when they both hit high notes. With headphones on, I think there was a really great opportunity to place these Left to Right in the mix as well if they used courtney in the way I suggest.

For her to have been effective it needed to be more of a duet feature. If her and Jesse had done the second verse/chorus with Jesse on the chorus as well, this would have felt way different.
@jordanroberts15193 жыл бұрын
I think it would have been hard for Courtney to add anything to a song that has been out for 6 months. Sam Carter added something to Yellowjacket because he was in on the recording process and it is 'partly' his song, so it made a difference. I really appreciated the femininity she brought to the post bridge.
@missinbrain3 жыл бұрын
I totally get what you're saying. But in Spiritbox's last livestream someone asked how she was going to tackle Yellowjacket live w/o Sam. She said that it was written for her to do originally, so she will perform it as originally written...although she did say she is sure Sam will pop on stage at some point with them too.
@jordanroberts15193 жыл бұрын
@@missinbrain I mean like Sam was an original part of the song. It never came out without him on it. So he was part of the original process. This was different because Courtney was coming in after the song had been out for 6 months

Courtney at this point is like getting a Drake feature for metal - but this doesn't do it for me at all. She came in right at the end and didn't add anything to the song. Hell - she wasn't even shown in the music video. ERRA over the course of 5 albums has never had a feature and the one time they do it, it goes like this :/
@HEARDGERD3 жыл бұрын
I get the impression that Courtney Actively tries to stay out of the way when possible. Her parts are always welcome, and of course she kills it every time, but Even with her feature in Contraband, I think the general listener would have liked her to do some cleans as well, but again, she seems to like to put her hand print in the concrete and then kinda fade back away. I'd say to a certain extent that she is conservative, almost to a fault with her features but at the same time, it's nice that she appears to recognize it's not HER song, she's just adding flavor as a feature is really supposed to do.
