My daughter has the same problem. 6 month old iPhone 11 getting short on memory, she wasn't able to delete photos, then yesterday it got stuck o n the apple logo, trying to recover or update has left it in an error 14 loop. I don't understand how a memory shortage can stop a device from starting up. Surely the space needed by the operating system is reserved, and surely before doing an update/install it should check if there's enough memory before it starts. I've always been an Android user and never had a problem like this. Seems a full restore is the only option and all those precious photos she has will be lost. Disgraceful from a company with $200billion in cash reserves.

YES! That is exactly what's happening to my iPhone X as I am leaving this comment! I have been extremely frustrated at this situation all week. My iPhone was at max capacity and I was told by Apple that I would need to do an update of the software. I too purchased more iCloud storage to make sure that everything was backed up and left my phone to upload to iCloud overnight. The following day I noticed less than a 1/4 of my photos and videos were uploaded and was not getting a response from a couple of my apps so I decided to do the software update. That's when my phone got stuck in limbo. The screen is white and says "swipe up to upgrade" on the bottom of the screen but does not respond when I swipe up and reboots itself every few minutes. I have tried a few software recovery programs as well, taken my phone to 2 different local companies, spoke with a few data recovery places as well as been on the phone with Apple tech support for hours at a time each day for the last week. Nothing has worked and nobody can help me. The last data recovery place I called across country told me that it's an Error 14 message and that nothing can be done at this point. Apple is willing to have their Engineers take a look at it but assured me that they will most likely have to restore the phone to its factory settings which means I lose the 2 years worth of photos and videos I so badly want off my phone. That's another issue. During my attempts to back up my photos and videos into my Photos App on my MacBook Pro as well as into iCloud, it skipped almost 2 years worth of photos and videos. I still can't understand why or how and Apple can't explain it to me either. I am beyond frustrated and extremely upset. I'm just so tired of dealing with this phone issue. Apple needs to take some sort of accountability and acknowledge what is going on and create a resolution for their costumers who pay a ton of money for these devices.

sorry to hear that! Yeah the backing up process has always been weird for me too, sometimes my stuff gets fully backed up, other times I have to manually click around until stuff starts getting backed up. (especially for my Google Photos app but that's a whole different story lol)

I am stuck with 3 years worth of photos in iphone 11 with this same issue. Started to show low memory and then when I tried to take back up it showed disconnected for no reason. Which made me think may be previous last months back up may be causing the problem hence deleted all old backup from macbook :( what a foolish move i know now its stuck in recovery mode and unable to update as it gives ERROR 14 asking me to restore i am really upset and tried 10 odd softwares from google search but none worked :( please if someone has found or know of a solution to comment in this thread

ths happened to me. I have an 11 pro updating to the 14.3... had PLENTY of storage on my phone even backwd it up daily but the back ups are selective so im missing some videos and pics. Extremely frustrating. Apple said they are aware of this problem. Keep calling in. They need to fix this.

Yeah it's really unfortunate it keeps happening. Best option right now to protect your data is to do the iCloud backup or backup your pictures and videos manually on a computer.

Apple dont care about your data so they will not even try. I have the same problem with an iphone 7 and the apple authorized repair guy pretend to change the cable... i looked at his face and told him " you know exactly what is going on ".. and his smile died. He looked up at me and said the store can only help to restore but not recover data because it is user's duty to back up... Im just hoping for legal suit in the US on the grounds that an update was allowed on low memory... ive used Iphone since 3S and this problem is a deal breaker for my future purchases... F Apple!

This happened to me on an iPad Pro. Was overseas and iCloud on my phone is very slow in European countries, so phone will fill quickly and iCloud would take days to keep up, so one day I dumped a bunch of videos via AirDrop onto iPad to give iCloud a chance to catch up. The iPad was rarely on WiFi. When I got back, iPad was acting weird, decided to restart in hopes it would clear some space. Got stuck in bootloop. Apple Care Rep on phone told me to try update on iTunes and that it would NOT wipe anything. Well, that update WIPED everything. Pretty devastated, it’s been about a month and the sting won’t go away. But it seems even if Apple Rep didn’t wipe it, the data was not accessible. Luckily the iPad did upload I’d say about 75% of the files. But I was not near full before this happened. Weird. Unacceptable. The trip was a unique experience, and sucks this happened.

It's because the phone has no more storage to update I believe but it already started downloading the update but just can't finish it (with iTunes). Why doesn't iTunes report this problem, as there isn't enough space? Why allow the installation of a new version? Why is Apple happy with so many dissatisfied customers who end up losing pictures and videos with their children? No other reliable application / OS uses this deceptive strategy that allows you to update / install to stop halfway through the process and thus lose all personal data. I think the strategy to sell iCloud needs to be changed, if there is a minimum of empathy ... Has there ever been an update that can delete extra applications so the phone with all previous data will work again? Does it make sense to keep phones in the drawer until such an update appears? Thank you!

i am struck in error 14..can't get my little one photos that I took from last 1 year old since she was born..so frustrating to see sale tactics by apple. I do not trust apple will do anything to help with the fix..coz they want people learn hard way so they can up-sell icloud storage plans...this is more of an advertisement for icloud plans..other tactics apple notorious for 1. slow down devices as they reach 1+year of life span with unnecessary updates in the name of optimizing battery performance...total BS.. 2. Upsell apple care with glass screen on the back( why but why?) .

The exact same thing happened to me a year ago with an iphone 7 and iOS 13. I had tried an iclous backup the week before and it failed. When the phone hit infinite boot loop, I lost all my data, which was 2 years of pictures and videos including my travels to 7 countries. I had been meaning to back it up to my computer but my computer was at full capacity and so I paid for iCloud storage and the backup was interrupted and failed. Dr. Fone didn't work. I also sent my phone to a data recovery company and they were unsuccessful. Ultimately, I had to restore.

I was very frustrated with this error and did not want to work after 10 tries. Then, I rebooted my computer and tried a different cable (Official Apple cable it came with) and it finally finished the update without the error. I believe trying it on a different computer or a Mac would also help. The Apple Store should be able to help also.

@@micnik4793 By update, I meant it wiped the phone and started it up as a brand new phone. Most of the apps auto downloaded but over 7000 pictures were lost because my wife only had the basic 5GB iCloud storage. Let's just say she wasn't happy.

I am completely heartbroken; my iPhone 7 plus had this issue. I have 128 GB of storage on it, and I believe I had used up about 126 GB out of the 128 available. I had no idea that storage being nearly full could result in a problem like error 14. My phone hadn’t been backed up since March 2019, so I have thousands of photos from 2019 up until January 2021 that are now trapped where I can’t access them. Come to find out, my phone stopped automatically backing up my photos/videos because my iCloud storage was full. Also, I hadn’t updated my phone in who knows how long (I’m pretty sure it has updated automatically in the middle of the night in the past, so I have no clue what version it was at before it had this huge issue). This is how it started: I got a notification which said something along the lines of “The IOS update version 14.3 is ready to download.” It gave me the option to “Close” or “Update”. I pressed close because I was busy on my phone. Then my apps started crashing, so I decided to turn my phone off and turn it back on to troubleshoot. Well, it got stuck on the Apple logo screen. I did some research the next day and saw that I could connect it to iTunes on my computer. Since it was stuck on the Apple screen, my computer couldn’t recognize my device being connected to it. I then downloaded and purchased a software called Reiboot which claims to have the ability of entering/exiting recovery along with fixing 150 other Apple device issues. Needless to say, that didn’t work, however, it did get my phone to get as far as recovery mode. The issue now is that my phone can’t get out of recovery mode. According to the Reiboot software, I need to do a Deep Repair to exit recovery mode (Deep repair wipes all data from the phone, so that was not an option for me). My mom and I have been researching countless days and nights trying to figure out how to get my photos and videos off of the device or recover them. The woman at Apple who we called tried to tell me “you just have to restore the device ma’am”. There’s no way that I’m going to do that. I believe that the people at Apple would care about their own photos and videos as much as their customers care about theirs. On my messed up phone, I have photos of my uncle who passed away and thousands of photos of my baby nephew and niece from the times they were born up until my phone decided to ruin itself (just because my storage was full and it hadn’t been updated). We put trust in Apple to be a part of our family’s lives by storing precious photos/videos on Apple iPhones. With all the research my family members have done about this now, we’re finding that this “error 14” issue is happening to thousands upon thousands of Apple users. So many people have memories of loved ones who have passed, babies in their family, and other important memories (just like my situation) that they can’t get back now. So, not only am I heartbroken, but I’m beyond frustrated, angry, and very confused as to how Apple is letting this happen to so many of their loyal customers. My family is hoping and praying that Apple resolves this issue so the people who have gone through this and saved their phones for “just in case” can recover their photos and videos. I will be putting my iPhone 7 plus in a drawer until Apple or someone else comes up with a concrete fix or releases a way to do this. I feel terrible for everyone else who is going through this :( If anyone has any advice for me to recover my photos and videos, please let me know! I’ve purchased a new iPhone 11 and will be ensuring that all my new camera roll items are backed up from now on. If there’s a way to transfer the photos/videos from my iPhone 7 plus to my iPhone 11, I’d love to know about it!

Hey guys. My wife had the same issue with a IPhone XR iOS 14.3 After days of trying i found a solution working for us. What I did: 1. Download 3utools 2. Download iOS 14.5 beta firmware in the ”flash” tab. 3. Flash the iphone with the iOS 14.5 beta and be sure to check ”retain user data”. I cant promise it works for you, but it did for me.

Hey, I´m just answering this because I promissed I would tell the world if it worked. I had same issue, during a travel with several photos each day, on the last day my phone started to crash the apps and I did what I usually do, turned off my phone. When I turned back on it got stuck on apple logo and nothing showed on these tutorials worked. I even put my phone on rice thinking it could be a water problem (this would be last reason since I have a Pro Max 11 waterproof). I started to see the tutorials to update the phone through Itunes and then error 14 started to appear. As I was not paying any attention to my storage space it was likely this was the issue. I read thousand of websites and youtube tutorials about this problem and started to feel spoiled for almost crying for a few photos lost, I was certain I would not recovery the not backed up photos. BUT THEN... I had an idea, the last one before finally restoring the iphone and losing the data... I saw several tutorial showing how to update the software on itunes downloading a firmware available for your device model. When I tried the first time I chose the last version available IOS 14.3 (6.36 GB) and during the update it didn´t surpass more then 1/3 of the loading bar. Since the issue is the low storage space I thought that maybe if I choose the IOS 14.2 (6.29 GB), version my phone was updated before, since it requires less space it could work out. I was hopeless when started the update and for my surprise the apple loading bar was almost 95%. I waited for a few minutes and then Itunes stopped and showed Error 6. It did not take long (about 10 min), I was searching tutorials to fix error 6 when MY PHONE TURNED ON AFTER 3 DAYS STUCK ON APPLE LOGO. It may not work for all cases but since I saw thousands of desperate users, it could maybe help a few.

This exactly issue happened to me with iphone X after upgrading my ios from ios13 to ios14, but my error code is 75 not 14. I will never restore my iphone and lose more than 7k of photos and videos of my memories.. please Apple give us a hope 💔

I'm going through this right now with my Iphone 11 pro and I'm honestly hoping i don't lose my data because this is so annoying, when I finally got the fix of updating using iTunes and a pc with the iPhone on recovery mode screen, then boom error 14 ...WTF and the same thing with me, i haven't updated my icloud... im a phone technitian and no, there's no fix for error 14 seems like the phone tries to auto update without enough space to cache the update, because it needs to expand the IPSW (the update file) and store it somewhere in the device's nand so, it cant completeley transfer the files and you end up with a very obvious to fix from apple's part, but ofc they wont bc they are a companny and their primary objective is to make money and if this error's "solution" is to spend money on icloud suscriptions they'll just let it be.

Just worked with me 2 Hours ago and my iPhone is back to normal again after 2 Days of continuous RESTART and FORCE RESTART Then finally followed these steps just today: DO NOT GO FOR THE FACTORY RESET SETTINGS Even when it says the iPhone cannot be updated! Or Gives you the error 14 message "That iPhone cannot be updated", BUT I STILL DID IT..... (it's NOT THE TIME TO GIVE UP SO IT IS WORTH TRYING) My iPhone problem was caused by full memory capacity usage, I tried to remove some apps and movies and photos ( alot of them ) but the storage kept full persistently and did not reduce as per the records of the storage indicators in the iPhone storage found in settings. Accidently I restarted my phone hoping that the storage problem will reduce after a restart, and that's when my iPhone didnt work again and kept restarting with Apple Logo again and again, but no problem It's FIXED at LAST!. Please follow these steps carefully: 1- Use an original Apple USB cord 2- Use Latest iTunes Software 3- in This scenario I was using Windows 10 (with full updates till date on my PC) 4- Install the latest Firmware Recovery process (when you get this message: if your iPhone can’t be updated you will need to restore it to its factory settings DONT DO THAT!) Just select cancel and go for normal update that doesn't wipe or erase your data and doesn't reset it to factory settings, just go for what updates your iPhone's iOS firmware. 5- Once you start the update of your firmware you will face the stubborn message (the iPhone could not be updated unknown error 14) DONT WORRY JUST RESTART THE PROCESS FROM BEGINNING OVER AND OVER and keep your iPhone ON ALL THE TIME FOR A LONG TIME LIKE 5-7 HOURS STRAIGHT, it could be that its fixing internal corrupted files but in very slow process be patient with your iPhone.... 6- Keep restoring your iPhone's software through iTunes (after 10 trials of facing error 14) it finally penetrated the persistence of error 14 and it completed the iPhone's firmware update. 7- Once the iPhone updated the firmware it will ask you to enter your iPhone's 6 Digits PASSCODE 2 times in order to start the process of (ATTEMPTING DATA RECOVERY) this process will load back all apps photos messages WhatsApp of your iPhone as it was. Note: I did use one of these programs jus the video above to just exit the Recovery Apple Logo and the iTunes Logo (PC image with cable) from time to time, but purchasing it was definitely a bad idea, because it really didn't help the issue even though I downloaded the old IOS firmwares and it wasn't able to match its compatibility with the phone, so DONT downgrade your iPhone its not necessary, just iTunes and the steps above will fix your problem by the blessings of ALLAH, just pray while you are doing this if you like. I have an iPhone 11 pro max. Same exact thing happened to me, was driving to work and it kept crashing. Turned off the phone and it never turned back on. There's another video here on KZbin that made a rant video about 4 months ago. No solution so far. I did come across a forum after visiting over 50 sites from 2016-17 that said they had gotten lucky bypassing it by applying heat to the device. And multiple people had confirmed. They did however do this on an iPhone 7, I am not willing to toast my expensive ass phone over something that may or may not work.

I had experienced something very similar before, if not identical, with a Google Nexus 6p few years back. Was running just fine then suddenly it shut down and never turned back on. Same boot loop story. I got desperate though and contacted Huawei and took the first solution they gave me, which was to switch out the phone. Few months later they released some sort of intermediate software update that allowed the phone to run with very minimal CPU use or whatever. Which allowed people to extract their info. They then recommended to wipe the phone and start fresh. The software was released months after I had experienced the problem so I wasn't able to extract my info. They even got sued for that issue and I ended up receiving a compensation of close to the full original value of the phone even after having it replaced. You would think that I would learn from that experience and back up my phone often, but I just never expected the expensive ass iPhone to do the same thing and now I'm stuck missing 3 months worth of photos that I'm not willing to lose. I'm not sure if I should wait to see if an intermediate update comes out or restore it and sell it? I'm a sitting duck with a 3 year old Android.

I've had the same issue with my fathers iphone 7 while updating to ios14, the storage was nearly full and it couldn't flash the firmware and itunes was giving error 14. I've tried several times and finally i've come across with a video suggesting to put the phone in the refrigerator for a while, which looked definitely ridiculous. I tried it and believe me it worked. I don't know how but the phone is working right now. I hope this can help you (hope; poor men's bread)

I had the same issue, you have to remove your account from the phone through iCloud then rest the iphone from recovery mode. It will work but you will lose your data

My wife's iphone 8 is in excact same situation since last night. As someone else mentioned in the comments, had received memory warning but couldn't back up. I thought it might be the new lap top. But now after reading the comments, I wonder if apple really does this on purpose to force users purchase iCloud. Apple support gave me a couple of phone numbers, apparently they are independent companies who can recover data. But gotta pay out of pocket.
