Some distressed soul may visit this video in search of a solution. I present mine: If your camera shutter makes some strange noise every time you turn it on, hit the photo button, insert a battery, and/or insert an sd card, the issue may be resolved by doing the following: Turn the camera on. WHILE it is making that strange noise, turn it off. Repeat this until the issue is resolved. If you ever are able to interact with the LCD screen, reset all camera settings. Why might this work? I'm no expert. I hypothesize that the camera stores information about whether the shutter is open or closed instead of using a sensor to read that information. By some strange circumstance, the camera may think the shutter is open, while it is closed. And thus try to close the already-closed shutter, causing problems. This obscure on-off exploit might be able to interrupt the camera before it rewrites the shutter's open-close state, correcting it and resolving the issue.

U guys won't believe what i just did. I was facing the same problem. One of the shutter blade broke from its original position and was standing in a vertical position so i used a tweezer, a brush and a compass to break that shutter blade and took it out but one more shutter blade broke so i had to break it and remove it. The camera works just fine now. It's has been two years and i never had another problem with the shutter anymore. 👍🏽

I just follow your advice and did the same ! It wasn't easy, specially to remove the metal pieces holding the blades. But It worked like a charmed after.

Thank you so much. I had the error 20 for about 6 months for my 70D. I almost go buy a new R6 and an adapter so I can use my EOS lenses. Now it is fixed! I can use it again just from time to time it came out some smoke.

@DJANTTV I used a small thin tool and carefully moved the black shutter material you can see in front of the sensor in this video up and down. This then got the camera working again.

tl;dr solved and it wasn't shutter for me on 7D Mark II. Symptoms: when I click button I hear mirror/shutter, but only one time - i.e. not getting back to previous position, at least not instantly, but after 2-3 s. Sometimes waiting helped to remove err 20, sometimes I had to remove battery. Generally I was breaking every 10-15 photos, then after a few days, one per 10-15 suceeded. At the end I couldn't take any photo. Bulb mode was the same - mirror sound then err 20, bye bye. Video - err 20 without recording, just liveview. I was almost sure it was shutter, I consulted it and people confirmed it looks like this. Alas, I hoped I could do something. I tried some things, finally I tried feature that makes possible for shutter release without card. Silly thing, because it was breaking before saving photo (on bulb start, just after clicking shutter button, preview of video without recording), so it can't be card, right? And... without card it started to work properly. I quickly formatted the card using built-in feature with low level formatting checked. After formatting, I'm in stress - will it work or not? I'm not hoping for anything, simple card failure would is extremely unlikely. So I press it and I hear click-click. Photo saved, everything's fine. Repeat it 15-20 times to be somehow sure, then bulb, then video. Everything works as it should. Now I wonder if I would send it to repair service, would they charge me for shutter replacement? Probably yes. At last, but not least - I had a valid reason to believe it's NOT a card, but it was. Camera's firmware apparently behaves strangely and before you start to fix it, try basic things, like mentioned card. And don't expect typical fixing process with checking out things that certainly aren't the cause, because here it was. Sorry for a long comment, but if your baby is dying, I think it's worth to read it.

I opened my sony a77 after almost a year and it turned on then alpha logo showed and i had to set location and time zone , everything seems to be fine but after a few seconds it shut down and won't turn on,,i kept my camera without battery in a airtight box with some silica gel,, charged battery fully before using it,but it shut down and wont turning on,,when i turn on switch some red light is popping beside card slot and there is no information in display,,what could be the problem?

@@dareckowiak I have the same error because I thorn a flexible cable. In you case it's maybe just disconnected. On what part are you stuck ? Only hidden screw is near the usb / HDMI compartment.

I have a T6s that has about 500k maybe 1M shutter fires. Broke a blade in it a week ago. I saw in the display a big black area covering 1/4th the corner. What?! Nothing in front of lens. Rut roh. Took the cam back to the car, lens off, lifted mirror and oh boy. One leaf of the shutter had gone sproing. Just hanging. The pics it took with this hanging shutter leaf looked fine otherwise, so I thought WTH and got a pair of tweezers. :) Tweezers didn't have enough bite. Needle nose! That did the trick. A good tug on it and out came the bad tooth, so to speak. Shot some 4000 over the weekend and all seems good. No idea where this will affect a picture. Not sure why the shutter is there in the first place. I can do a manual exposure setting and then shoot video and there aint no shutter then. Canon! .... hint. Canon...

The note they sent me says "In an effort to provide our valued customers with a fast and economical repair solution for in-warranty products like yours, this model is exchanged as a whole unit when sent in for service."
