The bassist (Brenda Melina Martin) is Ale(jandra) Villarreal's favorite. I read that in some interview with The Warning and it's what got me started down this specific rabbithole. I discovered Ms. Martin plays with a band named Eruca Sativa (which is the scientific name (binomial) for arugula/rocket). So I started listening to their stuff. Musically they're all over the place, but they have some relatively hard-rocking stuff, so I recommended a couple of those for this channel. Wikipedia lists Les Claypool as an influence on Eruca Sativa. In this piece, she's quoting a bass riff from Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade's cover of Thela Hun Ginjeet. I say that she's quoting the cover, 'cuz I went back and listened to the King Crimson original and what she's playing is definitely closer to the Claypool version than the Tony Levin version. Ms. Martin usually plays her 5-string, but she's got a fretless that she uses, too, and makes some kewl Jaco sounds on it.

Hey, I think you actually nailed the pronunciation on Eruca Sativa. Do I get extra points for giving you a band name you can pronounce correctly without hesitation? Thanks for taking my request. Yeah, it does go on a bit too long, but I love the live concert energy of this version. They're speaking/singing in Spanish with an Argentinian accept (heavily influenced by Italian - lotsa people of Italian ancestry in Argentina). Native Spanish speakers from all over the place will tell you Argentinians talk funny. [later edit: I found something saying the lead singer (Lula Bertoldi) was born in 1979, so, mid 40s. The band started in 2007 and they'd all been in other bands before. In another interview, Lula says they all had families at the same time, so I'm guessing they' all about the same age] This is the Claypool Thela Hun Ginjeet version I reference in my reply to powerdavid (links don't seem to work in replies): kzbin.info/www/bejne/g52ZfaB_d5KbrKM It's long, strange and epic. I've heard a coupla reactors remark that Widi Rahmawati reminds them of Les Claypool, too.
