It isn't true that its only for lamay. It is served on special occasions. That's his own perception. Sinanta used to be served in schools because it is a heavy meal.

I was born and grew up in Cagayan but surprisingly never heard of Sinanta hehe At first sight, I thought it was an upgraded version of miki niladdit but apparently not. Hope if you do get to visit Cagayan, you go up north in Aparri and taste the miki niladdit that I am talking about and some other cuisines that you might not know of. Thank you Erwan for introducing our cuisine.

Thank you Erwan and team. This just goes to show how little I know of my country. I have been to Tuguegarao a number of times and have eaten Pancit patung batil patung always but this is the first time I have heard of Sinanta. Such an interesting use of food to show the culture of the place. This is why Featr is one of my favorite locally produced content creator. Its really similar to chicken sotanghon and yet some difference as well. Made me think of what foods do we eat during funerals. It's a blur really having buried both of my parents. My dad when I was in highschool, my mom a year before covid hit. In both instances I can't recall what we ate or served people who came. It's funny how I can recall more the rice and soup that I see served in kdrama funeral scenes rather than the funerals that I attended in real life. I mostly remember the coffee, tea and that tub of crackers/cookies, some bread. Was there even lugaw or sotanghon served. I do remember dropping by a restaurant or a 7-11 before going home. Such an interesting video.

Hi Erwan, glad to see you remake sinanta. It is usually served when someone dies because it's very affordable to make. During my community immersion as a Nursing student, I've seen a community of women gather to make and roll the miki and cook the sinanta for a night of "lamay". While most Cagayanos still cook it at home, on a cold and rainy/ typhoon weather, reminiscent of our rural childhood days. By the way, we use river clams (bennek in ilocano, tulya in tagalog) and/or chicken meat instead or pork and patola for the veg. :)

I used to eat Sinanta when I studied in Tuguegarao. 🤤😋 Also try to go to Baggao, Cagayan where you can find many waterfalls and hotsprings. Try their food there like the siling di maanghang not spicy pepper) which oftentimes cooked as solong pinakbet, their garlic langgonisa which is another favorite of mine and their traditional bibingka topped with toasted balat ng kalamansi.

I remember tagging along with my Lola during the 70s going to padasal, binyag. Sinanta is served with puto or bread. I also had it on my 5th birthday with my neighborhood playmates.

Mas marami pa ang pancitan sa Tuguegarao kesa sa eskwela, simbahan at ospital combined. And we pronounce it as "Pansih" and its true, we eat this as breakfast, lunch, merienda and dinner. Best to eat it after your drinking session.

Sinanta is close to our Abra Miki but in pork broth and without sotanghon. Topped with your preferred meat either chopped chicharon/bagnet, rurug or boiled pigs head, kalabkab or fried innards of pig, add fresh or boiled egg, spring onions and vinegar. Yum!

Those are delicious. I would make pancit using corn beef and chorizo. The idea of the dish I ate as a boy scout camping in Western Visayas 45 years ago. Sinanta is also good for hang over dish. Because of drift/drag net fishing in my home town? It destroyed the ocean floor. No more shells or clamps, that use to be plentiful during season. Growing up I often eat Misua with shrimp and clamps or Nylon shells. Then top with small dried fish "Balingon" or "Shreded Squid" or "Pinakas na Lokus". In the Visayas regions we don't name dishes out of the kitchen sink. It was made because of necessities. It was given some thought. Despite plenty of food and wasteful of food in the USA. I still cook noodles/misua/bihon with Ligo sardines. And my sisters will eat all of it, while I'm in my room eating pizza. 😀

Tip: When looking for pancit batil patong in Tuguegarao, the uglier the place the better and more authentic the pancit is. Sinanta is special because its rare to find.

My tuge friends take their pansit seriously and they will most likely have strong opinions about some facts presented in this video. I do know that sinanta was born out of the necessity to serve something in lamay so it is just a basic noodle soup so as to stretch the serving to a lot of visitors.
