As a bartender at Nick's at 7th. ave and 10th st., i heard Pee Wee and the gang 6 nites a a week, 1948.I am now 94,probably one of a handful still alive from that era.

Pee Wee Russell always makes me listen closely. You never know which note he will play next, but he always comes down on his feet. He is probably my favourite clarinettist, together with Edmond Hall.

Hodes' "Jazz Alley" was a great tribute to the old Condon Mob in NYC and produced some very fine jazz in a Chicago Night Club environment. These two legends still "had it" back in 1968

But Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw did technically everything with the clarinet and dont forget Peanuts Hucko. Pee Wee was special to create an unique style....
