Just incredible. That Harriet Tubman shot gun reference is something else. Queen Erykah is not an overstatement. Love that this song is all kinds of deep and powerful but just groovy as hell too!

I can't believe it's the 21st century and we're STILL having conversations about race and racism. The Civil Rights Movement is still alive. The same issues that were discussed by Rev. King back then, are the same ones being discussed today. Is it naive of me to think that racism can or will ever end? I think about my son(he's 20 months) and what all I have to teach him about race and how blacks are viewed in society and the media. I can honestly say it's overwhelming. Due to the increased shootings of unarmed black men( some women and children), saddens me to say there haven't been any improvements on race relations. If it was, we would see a better outcome-the only right outcome- from the majority of these cases. "...we got to keep marching on 'til we hear that freedom song..." I'm ready to walk and fight for what's right. Everyone lives matter. BLACK LIVES DO MATTER. God bless everyone. In honor of Black History Month.

In concert, Erykah explain that she was watching a documentary about a country that was separated in their home. For example, mom and dad had to stay on one side of the house where the kitchen is. Their children had to stay on the otherside. They could never cross the line between each other. This inspired her to write this song.

White people.-Think “Hidden Figures”. Those sisters made history-a major difference in America’s standing in the space race in the world. And they hid it. It was never written in the history books or mentioned n that historical context. So research and study for yourself.
