Fun video. I appreciate the advice you give. Thanks. I'm out in the ochocos all the time and love seeing a local in my neck of the woods doing well on youtube. I'll be going out tonight to get away from town. Haha. Happy bushcrafting!

Didn’t know esbit stoves were a thing in the states. They’re actually really well known in Germany, as a different model is issued to the Bundeswehr here! The ones most popular where I live are kind of foldable, with the fuel tabs also being stored inside. Great piece of kit for sure! Keep up the good work:)

I can certainly recommend the Esbit cook kit. Bought the Esbit Trekker cook kit years ago and it still rocks! A good solid, functional, easy kit that's small and light weight (not ultra light but close). Gets the job done every time. Nothing to break really. After years of use it looks the same except for some blackened soot. I leave it on there to keep it seasoned 😁. Other than that it is same as out of the box. A super GREAT piece of kit for a fraction of the prices other kits charge! If I lost it or if it grew legs I would replace it with the same kit again! BTW, the Esbit Trekker has both fuel options, Esbit tablets and/or the alchohol burner.

Keep up the good work Dan! Stay healthy and hope to have dinner or coffee at least in sept or Oct. Will keep in touch! I made kydex sheaths for my modded BK7 and 16's a while ago. Both are horizontal carry. I finally spent a couple days with my BK7 across my back. It is so comfortable that I actually sat in a chair and forgot it was there! I wish I could show you pics of them on here. I'll show you in person later this summer. Good video. We all need to be reminded how we can take care of ourselves out there! Later my friend.

Thank You! Please send me an email pic of your scout carry sheath. I have often thought about doing a sheath that way. Waiting for just the right knife to come along.

I enjoyed your video, but I do have a question. You mentioned using the Esbit tablets for the MRE's because the MRE heaters are expensive. But don't they come with the heaters? BTW, I would agree the MRE's have improved a lot over the years. I like to warm up the cheese too. Again, nice video!

Thanks for the video! Glad you told me about the burn bans, I will have to take care to pay attention to that. Would you happen to know of any good guides for wild edibles east of the Cascades? Im hoping to do a trip after quarantine restrictions loosen and I would like to practice some bushcraft but the only guides I can seem to find are all for my area here in the Willamette(wich seems silly since you can hardly travel anywhere without natural food sources practically slapping you in the face here).

Thank You for watching. Foraging the Mountain West by Thomas Elpel is my favorite wild edible plant book. While not Eastern Oregon specific, it does cover many of the plants here and does so in a more useful way than any plant book i have seen. Fishing, hiking, camping, are all still going on here. Weather is great too, in case you want to travel this way sooner.

@@ochocobushcraft1742 Thank you, Il check it out! Also that's good to know, I wasn't sure with the forest service saying the trail heads where "closed" but dispersed camping still allowed. I'm still waiting on some gear for a buddy and I'll need to make sure hes familiar with its use before we go.
