I have a stainless steel water bottle and cup. Both have lips around the top. I took steel wire and wrapped 4 or 5 loops around them below the lips. I then took nails and placed them inside the loops and twisted the nails in opposite directions bring the loops tight. When the nails are removed, you are left with a small loop on each side where the nails were. I use more wire in the smaller loops to hang over a fire. No drilling and your cup lids should not have to be modified to use. Instead of a fish spreader I always carry a small roll of steel wire to make a bail. Thanks for the video and best of luck to you.

Nice review. I have a great tip for you. If you put your Stanley pot in a nylon stuff sack it will slide in and out with ease. I also have a condor pouch and this trick makes it very easy to get your cook kit in and out. Plus you'll have a stuff sack for use around camp. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy & BE SAFE!

nicely done. I put the holes for the spreader at 90 degrees to where you did so when i pour out of the cup using the handle liquid does not dribble out the hole. other than that i cloned your setup and a big thank you!

Nice setup... mine is very similar, except I have everything in the bag as follows: First in is a dish scrubber pad for cleanup, next is the Stanley lid. Next is the SS water bottle (got it at a garage sale for $0.50, love deals like that!) that I have nested into an empty steel soup can that's a perfect fit (never had to use it yet but it weighs almost nothing and takes up no extra space, so doesn't hurt to have an extra container if needed). On top of the bottle (upside down) I nest my Stanley pot followed by my GSI cup. I do it this way so it's WAY easier to remove everything from the bag without having the pot and cup edges catch on the lip of the bag.

Stanley Brand . . . jmtnvalley6 months ago I am reviewing your vid. Thumbs up last time. My only comment to Stanley is to square off the bottom of their Adventure Cook Pot. It's currently difficult to find a stable stove for it. Squaring it off like one of the metal cups (keep all other dimensions the same) would make putting on a stove a lot easier. Thanks again. i agree completely with the above statement .

I've not seen Condor pouches and predominantly use Maxpedition and Helikon-Tex pouches which are of excellent quality and well designed, though the Maxpeditions are quite expensive in the UK. I have both sizes of the Maxpedition Water Bottle Pouches and couldn't be happier with them. They fit the Jetboil Sol Ti stove or my Back Country Boiler really well. Photography lens cases are also great for carrying water bottles and are well padded. I use the Lowepro Lens Case 1 to house my Snow Peak 450 twin wall mug and brew kit (teabags & Marvel milk powder) and its perfect in that role. When I came across Stanley gear, I couldn't believe just how heavy it was! I stuck with titanium and anodised aluminium for the weight savings, though other than for boiling water I'm not keen on titanium cookware for its awful heat distribution. Your kit looks very compact and purposeful and works well. Thank you for sharing.

I did about the same as yours but with some different items. Using the Condor H20 pouch. Starting at the bottom of the of the pouch there is a Oilcamp Stainless Steel Space Saver Cup. Then the Stanley Adventure Cook Camp System which fits ( sits ) inside the cup. The tapered sides of the Stanley Camp Cook kit fits inside the cup like it was made for it. Along the outside of the Stanley is a long handled Titanium spoon. Inside the Stanley is the Gen2 Folding Firebox Nano Ultralight Backpacking 3" Stove. On top of the Stanley is a Trangia Alcohol burner so I can cook with either alcohol or wood. The outside pocket of the Condor has a plastic ( Flask shaped ) bottle which has the Denatured Alcohol for the Trangia. Next to it is a fero rod for lighting the burner or starting a fire. Folded next to the fero rod is a bandana which can be used if the handles of either pot gets to hot for a bare hand to touch. All of it together makes one small complete cooking outfit. Thanks to using a wood fire mine has a nice blacken bottom and sides to it which I think helps it to heat up quicker.

The fish mouth spreader has sharp ends to lock together. I've filed mine down and used a stainless quick link to hold the ends together. To grab the ring on the lid use a wooden type closepin spring clamp. A nylon scrubber cut to fit the cup will help reduce some of the clinking. A small round SS grill can provide a bit more stability for the Esbit, but must be carried outside the bottle holder.

1 simplification, that I think will work. If it is just a matter of cooking over an open fire with the Stanley system, if you lockdown the lid with the handle you can pick up a full pot of water with that split ring you put in place of the plastic handle. That way you don't have to keep taking the handle on and off, and you don't have to have an extra piece of equipment. Simply attach a cord or chain to the split ring, lock the lid down with the handle, and boil away. I have not yet tried to cook this way, but I have held a full pot of water suspended.

I have to get one of those Condor bags, as I have everything else. Love your setup and will be making one with similar mods. I would probably swap out the Esbit stove, (not that there is anything wrong with it in the kit, and replace with a canister stove and mini canisters such as the MSR Pocket Rocket, especially if they would fit in the side pouch. I have also seen another KZbinr that flattened a spoon/spork (Coalcracker?) and slid it in with his nesting gear. Incidently, the Walmart plastic cup lid will also fit the Stanley cook set. I have found a lid for my Stanley Boil and Brew set and without the press it might work with larger water bottles and/or maybe another cup could nest in it and the water bottle in it, if a slightly larger "pot" would be desired. I wonder if the Simple Theory Gear Stove or an Ikea stove with cup and water bottle nested in it would fit in pouch.

I appreciate the comment. I am not a fan of Dave since he went from "common man" stuff to pimping every product that would put his name on it. The last straw was his crazy expensive, gimmick triple barrel shotgun garbage. He even took down his DIY of the sling bow after Marksman picked up the design with his name on it. I respect his knowledge and his accomplishments but dont agree with some of his actions. I am all for a man making a dollar but he has a pattern of this type behavior so I no longer follow him.

This is virtually identical to my Condor cook kit without the Esbit stove and my stainless bottle is the Nalgene 32oz and my cup the Tatonka which the Stanley cook pot lid fits perfectly. It all nests together perfectly. To overcome the problem of getting the items in and out of the pouch I just put everything nested into a plastic bag and it slides in and out with ease. Thank you for sharing :)

Does the Nalgene 38 oz work or the 40oz Kleen Kanteen. Was just thinking over going with a little more volume of water.

Actually used an angel grinder but a Dremel or even a hand file would work.

For right around $30 i can buy that cup the cook pot a set of camp silverware a stainless steel silverware strainer two metal tent pegs and some nuts bolts and washers and have a nesting woos burning cook kit all in one! Granted the stove portion is too wide to fit inside that type of bottle holder for an extra $10 bringing me up to $40 i can get a stuff sack and a sports bottle to complete the set

Cool! If you're doing it on the super cheap, just put it all in a $2 suff sack or pillow case and save the cost of the $20 canteen pack. Then tie it to your belt.

Great vid- thanks for posting this. I’m in the process of grinding the handles...and have the same items but my Kleqn Klanteen of course is too big...I can’t seem to find that bottle you have...any chance you could provide link to that website? Cheers.

The 32 oz. Kleen Kanteen works very well. The tapering shape fits into the Stanley cook set. The bottle he used was from a thrift store, with some advertising logo on it.

If you haven't found one yet, I've seen 32 and 40 oz kleen canteen bottles at Target. Be careful, the have insolated bottle too.

@Laremy Zaring Thanks. What I ended up finding that worked perfect is the tapered ‘urn’ style S.S water bottle made by Nalgene.

Your fish spreader is about 6inches? Seems 7 inches wouldn't fit the side pocket of the Condor pouch.

Angel grinder from Harbor Freight. It's like less than $20.00 and comes in handy around the shop for many projects.
