Some years ago, I decided to watch all the Eurovision Song Contests available on KZbin, almost always without knowing the winners or checking the rankings beforehand. When reaching the 1973 edition, I only knew about the Portuguese song and the Spanish entry, which was a huge success worldwide. Well, as soon as this song finished, I had little doubt either this or Cliff Richard's would be the winners. Anne-Marie David gave a towering performance of an extremely powerful song.

If you see the whole 1973 contest again, from start to finish, you might get an idea, why this song won. Eres tu was good, but after Mademoiselle David has finished, you had the feeling, that you just have heard the winner. Cliff Richard, again, lost with an too obvious "hit-song". Eres tu might have been more succesful commercially later on, but in terms of structure, melody and, last but not least, performance, this song was definitly one of the best titles ever to be performed during the ESC.

@dumupad3-da2412 жыл бұрын
I don't think the message is threatening and gloating. It says that as a human, sooner or later you realise that nothing human is alien to you; we all suffer as well as rejoice, we all have, in our different ways, the same basic experiences, b/c we are human. Therefore, we must act in solidarity with each other to achieve justice and happiness for all. This is why she looks and sounds so determined and inspired.

This song expresses what is literally the most important message in the world: we are all one. It's about the essential unity, the common nature of the experiences of all of us humans and the empathy, compassion and love that both allows us to realise it and follows from this insight. The conclusion, which the song doesn't need to state, is that we must act in love and solidarity with each other. As has been said by others, 'all men are brothers, and ought to love each other as such'; and we must 'act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood'.

'Eres tú' is a nice love song with a pretty tune and poetic lyrics. However, 'Tu Te Reconnaîtras' basically says what it means to be human, and expresses it perfectly by the lyrics coupled with the music and the performance. There's just no comparison at all.
@AndreasAntoniusMaria2 жыл бұрын
Eres tu is musically 10.000 times better. But Europe did not like Generalissmo Franco very much. So Spain was not alowed to win again.
@dumupad3-da2412 жыл бұрын
@@AndreasAntoniusMaria I don't like Eres tú more even musically, but in any case a tune is worth very little without the lyrics. The lyrics of Tu Te Reconnaîtras are just something infinitely more, and this was a time when many in the EBU member countries still understood French and could appreciate them. If Europe had been so bothered by Franco, they wouldn't have let La, la, la win. BTW, here's another unpopular opinion: La, la, la did deserve to win. As with Tu Te Reconnaîtras, the lyrics coupled with the melody are very good, but people who don't pay attention to lyrics in foreign languages can't appreciate them, so they ridiculously allege that Franco bought the juries.
