I know that this video is 6 years old, but it is still the only decent covering tutorial on KZbin! I have been modelling and building since the mid 1990's but had a life break for around 15 years and have recently got back into the hobby. Some of my models suffered from the inevitable hanger rash in the mean time and I decided to recover my Ben Buckle Super 60 ch4. Since I haven't covered anything in around 20 years I had forgotten most of it! Your video has helped refresh my memory and has given me the confidence to "just get on with it"! Thanks for that and keep up the good work, this is an excellent instructional and great video work. Thank You, Aspie_Geek_UK

From back in the 50's as I remember we used special paper , glue in place then with testers dope I would put it on the paper surface and when it dried the paper was tight . Then came a long the film , no glue needed just lay it on tight a spossible then a heat source wave over it , is's done and looks really nice . Today seems to be the foam planes .
im here trying to lesrn this art...i made some popsicle stick ribbing to practice....i used painters plastic that you lay on the room floor you are painting....anyway i just put some ca along the ribs layed the plastic over it let it dry then hit it with a heat gun felt heavy but looked pretty good

Good video frend for the complete novice. But after building and covering with tissue and dope , Nylon and dope, and many other forms of covering. Iv covered for 15 years or so with all kinds of film oracover ,solar film , pro film ect , and models up to 12 foot wing span . if you use a good quality iron you realy don't need to use of a heat gun as iv never. set the right heat settings as a lot of film covering will take a 130 c plus. And you will achieve a better finish and a much better glue addiestion to the airframe especially if you apply a small amount of heat acctivating glue around the edges of the wing curves and engine bay. As a heat gun does not seal the same way as good as a iron. That's why you see so many lovley models showing the age regards film peeling around the edges and going sagey. Some times with in weeks of finishing and some months later on thoses wonderfully fly days in the summertime. Please give it a try fellow modelers.

Thanks for the video, as someone just getting into it, I’ve noticed the coverings can come in 3 different thicknesses. Is there a significant difference in strength from the 1.0 mil to 2 mil? Thanks in advance

@Rcmodelgeeks7 жыл бұрын

@MrBatton6 жыл бұрын
This is a useful video on general covering technique but for the Junior 60 it has one major omission. The wing as designed is actually undercambered and the covering should therefore have been stuck to the underside of each wing rib to follow the camber. You can see on the video that the model does actually have undercamber but you have chosen to ignore this and cover it as if it had a flat bottom section. Granted it is fiddly and time consuming but it does add significantly to the performance of the wing section. As a result you will have lost the wonderful slow floaty glide that is so characteristic of the Junior 60's flight performance. What a shame!
@larrys6394 жыл бұрын
I agree MrBatton. What a wonderful opportunity to show people how to do a proper under camber covering. Now you have 60% of the film on the underside of the wing- not even supported by ribs :-( and nobody but you seemed to notice. These guys are reasonably entertaining and show basics of using an iron and film, but they might ought to watch a KZbin on how to properly cover an under camber wing.
@teretz5714 жыл бұрын
@@larrys639 Ihave built many old timers and use a cover grip solution which i paint on, when dry i attach the film and iron it down one bay at a time, never had an issue what these boys have done has destroyed the lift factor of the wing

@@teretz571 Exactly alex! I havent ever built an under camber wing, but I have seen it done properly using heat activated adhesive on the underside of the ribs

lot better you can time 44;52 take cover out add 2 pcs tape both side film, now you have big handles were can do, and then bush film out. lot lot easy and better than knife. and lot better easy have tape pcs keep film on to table and one side only open were bend to wing backside and heat glue, then one side have some place glued take tape out and can move to table wing and do same ewery side glue.
