I just ordered a bottle from Amazon, I’ll give it a try. I usually go with epoxy but its hard to keep it clean. So this will be a new learning experience for me. Thanks

This is the only sport plane kit that my local hobby shop has. $160 . The cockpit looks like a great place to put the receiver and or remote locator.

Hi, ya as long as you can make it accessible I guess. Maybe attach it with screws or magnets so you can get it open.

It’s a great looking plane. Nice work, I’m always afraid of cutting too much off😳

Thanks! Ya its hard to know when to stop. I try to take it a ways then put it down and go back to it. Give myself time to think about it. Plus after a while its easy to get sloppy, so its usually a few days process just hitting it a few times

Can you suggest a carving and shaping wood kit? Also planers for rc models biulds
@JamesRCPlaneTech2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I just use xacto carving kits. They come in a box, with several blades or you can just buy the handles and get blades separately… if you go to Amazon or other online there are lots of options. Here is a good kit I saw on Amazon: X-ACTO X5285 Basic Knife Set (XW5282E). There are a lot of knock offs and other brands , but x-axto has been making them for decades and are good quality. The blades I use most are the No 11 and the No 16, but thats just personal preference. Get the combo kit and you can see what blades you like the most. As for the razor block plane, really the only one that I think is easy to get that is not super expensive is the Master Airscrew brand. www.masterairscrew.com/collections/building-tools/products/razor-plane I picked up an older bran off ebay, the one in this video, nut Im not sure I like it much. I will probably get the Master Airscrew brand above.

Love the videos. I am getting ready to start a scratch build after being got from the sport for 30 years. For your shaping tools, that silver one, is that a rasp?

Hello, glad to hear you are building! that shaping tool is a razor plane. The one I have here is an old one. But you can get a great one from Master Airscrew. Or check ebay for the older ones. Below is the link to Master Airscrew, you can get the “ modern” one from them. Too bad they don't make a cowling for it! That would make the building much easier!

But that makes the nose much stronger than a fiberglass cowl would!

Ya, it was tricky getting it all to fit and shape. But it will be more solid for sure. Ill coat the inside with a resin to protect the wood from fuel.

Why did you have to do this, I thought the kit would come already with balsa shaped like the plane picture.

Mine came with just a block of wood. So I had to shape it. It’s a little challenging but as long as you take your time and try to take small cuts and keep checking as you go, it should go well.
