This poem really tore me up. As someone who has/still is battling addiction, I can relate to a lot of what he said. I developed a drug problem all through out high school. I had the cops called on me multiple times, I've been sent home early, I almost got into a really bad wreck, I was almost charged with 2 felonies at the age of 17. Drugs really ruin your life. They also ruin your families life as well. One night I was overdosing and my mom had called 911, and instead of them helping me, the EMTs, and police officers lectured me, and told me I was worthless, for 5 ish hours. They told me to not go to school that day, but I had to go to work that afternoon. The officer was off duty, but he was at my work waiting to make sure I went in. I went into school the next day, wishing I had died because I was going through withdrawal, and the officer was there as well. Talking to all of the administration. I had to go to the councilors office daily for a while, I was drug tested weekly for a few months. I had a feeling they had to tell my teachers as well because those 2 weeks, my teachers took it easy on me.

Shortly after I made this comment, I got off drugs by switching to drinking thinking that it was going to be better. I had the same outcome. I lost everything. I had been trying to get sober since late 2020. I just hit 2 years back in February, but ended up relapsing last week. I’ve been drinking a little bit every day since then. Feels like I can’t get over this shit and I’m about to just give up. It’s got me beat.

You are truly talented.. I've added this to my playlist that I listen to when I need a reminder of why I'm fighting so hard for my recovery..I got 160days today! 💜💛💚💙 May you be blessed!☮
