I was looking at that as essentially what you mentioned: taking my smock kit and putting it in there. You answered the one question i had which was if GI canteens would fit. So for a last minute ditch, this, and something like a Chicom rig would be great.

As you stated for your use case, she works well. I appreciate you doing a vid on this one. I couldn’t warm up to mine as due to the “sloppiness” when filled up, as you described. As an alternative to a smock for summer time, this concept is ideal and as usual, you’re spot on. I was trying to make mine work for things it’s wasn’t designed. Thanks again for posting this one and cheers!

@@Ivarr.Bergmann.Alaska Honestly, I’m not sure. I bought the satchel, which is too big but I keep it downloaded to fit under the lid of one of my rucks. I’m not really happy with any of the options I’ve tried to be honest. I have two setups, a lighter one for 3 days with a chest rig, 55 L ruck and ideally a bail out bag and a heavy setup with Brit belt kit, 110L ruck and a small daypack that rides under the lid of the ruck. I think the claymore bag is ideally sized for what I want it to do but there are still some things that annoy me. The intrusion of the main zippered compartment is a big one and as you said, if you pack it out full, it gets sloppy as hell. My chest rig won’t accommodate a USGI or Brit canteen, only a Nalgene type bottle so the claymore was purchased mainly for water as I prefer canteens unless I’m running my belt kit which Nalgenes make a better ruck shelf for me. Of all the things I’ve tried, if someone made a modern copy of a polish bread bag in modern materials and some smart additional features, it would be my perfect version of a shoulder bag. The claymore as it sits for me, I have extended the flap, removed the Velcro and added straps and fastex buckles to it, rigged up a 1” webbing “belt” strap slik clips and a fastex buckle so I can secure it to my body tighter if needed and that’s about it. It’s not a bad bag by any stretch, I just prefer a different layout. I’ll probably give it a try again at some point, the bushcraft satchel is nice though because I can upload/download my gear based on whatever I’m doing. To me, claymore is ideal if you want something to stay on body all the time, the Satchel is ideal for dumping the ruck and having a more featured E&E kit to survive from.

Nice piece of kit and I get what you're saying about the size of the bushcraft satchel. I had one similar in size and it just didn't fit my body right. My son uses it all the time now but he's taller. Looks like you could slide a few mags in there if you needed to plus up your number of rounds. Nate
@Ivarr.Bergmann.Alaska5 ай бұрын
Yeah you could fit mags/ammo inside and on the rear pockets. However the rear pockets have no cover so for me it be for a hasty emergency. I was going to mention the three rear slots but I don't use them so I didn't bothers.. I have carried SKS stripper clips inside w/ little to no burden as well..

@Howling.Wilderness.Alaska yeah of I carried extra mags,I would use this as a source of reloads, but to top off the chest rig.
@Ivarr.Bergmann.Alaska5 ай бұрын
@@HERscourge You may not like it if you plan to use 2 canteen and loading it up with mags. That's a lot of weight centralized in one small satchel pulling on your neck and shoulders, but if it works for you, than it works for you! We're all different..
@HERscourge5 ай бұрын
@Howling.Wilderness.Alaska personally I have no intention of turning it into an assault pack. Like I said in my other reply, it would be the contents of my smock plus water. Maybe some snacks if there's room. Just mentioning that if I did carry mags in it, I wouldn't load from the bag.

That fukin velcro drove me nuts. I cut two pieces of velcro stripes to cover it, marked the spot with sharpie where the snap is, cut small hole so that the snap will go through it then I just attached the velcro. Yup. I use this bag for 3 mags, small signaling pouch + admin pouch + First Aid kit with Mugga , foot powder and sunscreen shit like that , set of E&E paper maps with routes preplotted in case my GPS is dead. Small Garmin with 2 AAs goes in the Navtel Pouch which is on the side of Claymore bag or on the bag strap. Water bottle with fire kit and water filter is in another pouch from Helikon - Essential kit bag. The Claymore bag with mags and water was too heavy to be carried as a satchel. I mean for a short patrol its okay but for a longer time when overloaded its pain in the ass
@Ivarr.Bergmann.Alaska4 ай бұрын
Good comment. Thanks for that. Yeah the velcro is a bit much. But I think Helikon got it right for their target consumers, who most will never use it doing sneaky shyt. I gave my final opinion on it in my posted video earlier today.

i have 2 custom made ones ... i use them as my scout/optics bags, i like how versatile they are, sometimes i wear them on the side, but if i am not using a pack then convert them into a small back pack and it sits between my shoulder blades. Good shit, does this come with a strap? I think this would make a cool little kit bag if you wanna pack stupid light for a few hours out or something. 2 canteens and cup on the front, 2 spare mags inside the divider pockets, cordage, fire starter, spare blade, small poncho and who knows what else. This is pretty nifty and awesome camo pattern to top it off.

that Raider bowie is my best friends forestry blade of choice. The sheath is so mangled; he kept it together with flagging tape until I took a closer look and said "bro, I have gurilla tape" 😂 I sharpened it for him because he was using BFI (brute force and ignorance) to limb trees and clear alder. The first thing I did was knock 6 years of mulch out of the damn sheath 😂

Easy. You could literally just nick it with a razor at about 1/2 inch and a few swipes around the nick with a needle and thread, you'd be set. Or go full on and get a grommet kit and pound them in where you need them . Plenty of work space for either
