My M65 Field Jacket. It was my dads. Gave it to me when I was 16. Wore that thing to school, to the woods, everywhere, even in the summer. Its seen me do everything, and everything has been in its pockets. Still like to wear it today when I'm out and about. Sometimes I wear my British jacket just so I won't wear out the M65 anymore than I need to.

Great story.. there is NOTHING like a gift from a father you can take through life with you.. except the life they gave us, but i think you get what Im saying.. I have a leatherman my dad used and he gave it to me when he got back from Irak. It goes to the wilds with me every time.. Thanks for sharing your story.. Fun Fact. I mention you sometimes when ppl talk about DPM. I like to bring up that part of one of your vids where you simply disappear in DPM in tan grass..

the dimples are a flaw, if you take your new one and put it on a hot (as in boil) wash, the nylon grid pattern in the fabric will shrink slightly, causing the texturing. the ripstop ones with detachable hood are the Combat Soldier 1995 (cs95) issue field jacket which were on general issue until from 1995 til 2000-2001 when replaced with a poly-cotton version. If you have a ripstop with fixed hood, their rare .. limited issue only to SF units ... were designed to replace the old Arctic and SAS cotton smocks, Most common on the surplus markets is the soldier2000 (s2000) smocks ... made from a smooth poly cotton with fixed hood, they were on general issue to everybody. Originally back in the 70s, 80s, 90s ... only SF got issued windproof smocks, other people would have to buy them privately. .... have i put you to sleep yet???

I didn’t know that either… though that there were different versions. It worked like you said, I put my brand new one in the washer and it got the dimples now :-)

I couldn't do it bro, not with that many years service. Love my sas windproof smock (genuine lightweight Gaberdine). Weights nothing and blocks the wind a treat. Was used in the Falklands by a marine. Also my dennison 1942 smock..... they are keepers 100% lol. Used to have the kit carry sass smock back in the day too. Sold it when I left the military. Gutted now as they go for over £300 lol

My piece of emotional kit is actually 3 pieces. I have a Swiss Army Farmer that I always will have with my in the woods. A canteen set consisting of a cup from 1965 and a nalgene oasis canteen. My Yugoslavian mess kit. These will always be with me if I can manage it. All three have been used well.

You can still expand the life of the leftover fabric in strips of camo, I did that with an old original Brushstroke top when making my second iteration of my werewolf as a teenager. Still have that, and am thinking recycling that into something that'll fit my new AO in the coming future.

I have used dpm for the last 30 years and found them great for my area. The sniper smock, the para smock, amd 95 field jacket are great. I really like the British issue insulated liner that goes with them, it does not attach so it can be added or taken off easily as temp changes, it is also heavier than the US liner. Great video.

Good stuff man! Cool seeing how you stretched out the life of it and expanded the functionality. You have done some traveling, too. My uncle gave me my first set of BDU woodland pants when I was about 15. Wore them to threads. Lower legs ripped up, so turned them into shorts and kept em going for a few more years. Know what you mean about the sentiment. Have a good one

My 1st generation camelbak HAWG is my all-time favorite piece of field kit. Nothing else is close. Uncle Sam gave it to me in 2002. It went with me to Iraq in 03, and we spent lots of time together in the field before I was issued a regular assault pack. After that, it became my go-to day pack whether or not I had an LBV on.

I have an Arktis commando smock I think it's the 15 pocket one, I really like it. It's easy to overload. It's about a thick as a BDU top and breaths really well. I'm starting to have a problem with one of the chest pocket zippers, but I think that's because I used it daily and overloaded it.

My experience with arktis kit and smocks has not been good. They used be a good company but IMO is a mere shadow of what the once were. IMO money is better spent elsewhere. I had an Arktis smock around the time I got the salty S95.. I didn't even remember until you asked me about Arktis if that can help you measure what I think of them..

@@Ivarr.Bergmann.Alaska I'd agree with that the stitching had a bunch of loose threads, and the zips are pretty flimsy for the money, I got mine used so I'm not going to complain, just reinforce what I can and run it till it rots. Probably make my own down the line with all the pockets I want.
