The main reason I think this movie is on Disney+ is that it very often aired on the Disney Channel. I actually thought it was a Disney Channel movie. Disney must have the syndication rights or something.

So Santa is a vampire then? Immortal, wears red, gets invited into people's houses, feeds on children, lives in a lair with slaves, only appears at night. F@cking thanks for that Tony!

Funny enough there is a lot of scenes that were originally cut from the home media release that aired on Fox Family and ABC Family. For example there's a scene where Kean Bean shows how to control the car with the remote, a scenes where they show richie sneaking into the house when he's in the Reggiverse by hiding in a present which is why Reggie makes a comment on one of his gifts being stolen, a scene where Reggie parents go to his home to tell him what happened at the museum which is how Reggie puts two and two together where Richie was hiding and a scenes when they're in jail and Kean Bean gets an idea to use their socks to create friction on the jail bars to help them escape which is why they're randomly not wearing socks in one scenes. Apparently they was others, but I only remember those on particular from when I watched it one time on ABC's 24 Days Of Christmas back in like 2002.

Can also confirm you are right about the 50’s (specifically 1953) although interestingly the character first started out as a side character in Little Dot. And oddly enough to bring it full circle, arguably the best version of Richie Rich is the version from Harvey Street Kids/Harvey Girls Forever where they actually had the balls to make him not necessary a bad person ,but kind of a sheltered, snobbish jerk because even the show creators realized that this point it is REALLY hard to make rich characters relatable. Like even Batman had his wealth SEVERELY downgraded in a recent storyline in the comics to try to amend this issue

I heard about the TV cut ending and saw it, I read that after Reggie confessed that he caused the sleigh crashed and ruined the event. Richie realizes that it wasn't his fault, he was unhappy about it because he should have known it was Reggie, and he made that wish for nothing. Throughout the film, Richie believed the whole thing was his fault until Reggie was forced to tell the truth. I heard that test audience were disappointed at this extended ending because Richie easily forgave him and Reggie didn't get punish for it. He just told the truth to Richie and apologizes instead of being punish for what he did. Reggie didn't confess to the town that he was responsible.

So the Gift of the Magi reference doesn't really work because whereas the people in the original were too poor to afford gifts without pawining their valuables, the Riches can just buy another yacht and golf course.

The first Richie Rich was actually the first thing I reviewed on my Letterboxd…I do not know why, I was bored and it was in HBO Max at the time. And while it wasn’t egregiously awful, it was pretty forgettable and like Tony said a bit naïve in terms of portrayal of the wealthy…like to answer your question: the Riches are actually so nice that they’re actually pro-union to an borderline-unrealistic extent. although Reggie is actually in it briefly as the bratty kid from Richie’s private school (although their relation in that is unclear there especially since the bad guy is actually his father in the comics). From my limited understanding of the franchise, this one is a more faithful adaptation of the comics whilst the Maccualy Culkin one tried to sort of ground the characters in something resembling reality (and even attempting social satire a few times…to varying degrees of success)…I might at least need to check this out in order to experience our lord and savior Reggie
