Escape to the Country : North Devon [13: 2] - Habits Of Local Communities!
Alistair Appleton travels to north Devon to see if he help can cook up the perfect rural home for a pair of baking enthusiasts with a budget of £450,000. Away from the property search, Alistair travels to Arlington Court to see one of the best collections of 19th-century horse-drawn vehicles in the country.

My ancestors are from this part of England. Those ancestors brought horses with them on their journey across the ocean to Newfoundland….Seeing this wild Devon horses was so neat because the breed looks so similar to our Newfoundland ponies…our horses are descendants just like us. 🙂 Sadly, our ponies are almost extinct now.

I have watched this show for more than a few years now and love the different areas of England, Scotland, Ireland etc. Beautiful country! I have my favorite presenters of course which add a real charm to the purpose of the show. But what touches my heart most is the care that a lot of folks in that part of the world have for the elderly parents. Being of a mature age now myself, I think that is a wonderful way to give honor and respect for those who warranted it w a lifetime of loving family and sincere community service. Love this show, and wish this current couple all the best.

I love the beautiful 15 & 16 century villages/towns. Especially medieval/Tudor style homes I would love to live in England. I hate when people renovate these old treasures into contemporary style designs. I wish they would just restore them to close to what they looked like (of course you need the indoor plumbing, heating & electricity...things like that). I love the look of the beautiful wooden beams and thatched roofs. Dang I would love to afford to move to either England, Scotland or Wales (my great grandpa was from Wales and Great Granny was from England and I have family from Scotland!)

Artlover No shit Sherlock. I’m not delusional. There’s homelessness everywhere in every city, village, town, county, parish, state country in the world! There’s no reason to assume someone is an idiot or not realistic....all I did was make a comment on the beauty and history of the UK
@Capkirk
@Capkirk 4 жыл бұрын
Artlover Not touchy at all. And the way your comment was written was very condescending. And I doubt that all homeless people in villages are cares for. Normally they are given a ticket to another city so that they can live on their streets. And before you make another condescending comment ...I do know this as fact. I have family and friends who reside in small villages - to large cities in the UK. Have a brilliant and safe day!

so nice that they both agree on a quiet country environment...it gets rather tiresome on many "similar" style shows when they each have such opposing requirements...one wants to be in the middle of the city and the other wants a more quiet setting! Inevitably one of them always has to compromise... this show was a refreshing change!

In so many of shows similar to this, the agents don't show places that meet the buyers needs. To show a house with no "garden" which was a main feature this couple wanted was a waste of their time.

@@EMSpdx I think it would be rare to find a home already built with exactly what everyone wants. Wish lists vary and one person may want this and this, while another may want this and that. I for one hate dishwashers but it's rare any more to find a home without. They're out there but if it doesn't have a dishwasher it's probably missing something else I DO want. Your best bet for a perfect house is to have one built. But that's okay. I may want turnkey but I would still want to put my own stamp on it as well.
@susanhamilton1822

The exact house that people think they want doesn't always come on the market in the area they've chosen. I think they do a good job for the most part. Often when they do find the perfect house the couple doesn't buy it anyway. I just watch for myself and dream. I don't really care what the house hunters do. I find so many of them outrageously spoiled and picky.

I would think because what has been made into living places for humans used to be farm buildings of some sort, and making them into 2 homes gives them more of a scope for people to do what they want with it like when a person comes along and has the money to make a handsome offer to the people on the other side of attached 2 different homes. And I thought the very same thing 2 days ago then I thought about a good reason they have what we in the U.S. would see only in a town or city. And it does solve a certain situation which could be older people spending part of the year traveling and don't have anyone to watch their home for them,like having a built-in babysitter very close by. Sorry but Just Saying.
