I'm digging the Black/Black, but after watching you video I'm back to liking the green dial, black bezel MM200 L. E.. In some lighting its looks Black on black, but then the light hits it, and it pops that dark green with a splash of gold! 😁

Just tried the blue dial on hand yesterday. Unbelievably perfect. Really "hugged" my wrist... It would be better if the insert was ceramic because I can't tell the difference between a watch and a hammer...

Very nice but what matters is how well it runs! Something might be quite ugly to our eyes but perfectly perform its intended function! This just happens to be in a good looking "package" too! I SWEAR by SEIKO as a brand! They've NEVER dissatisfied or disappointed me in ANY way!

Superb Video FT as always. Black bezel on 185 looks cool. I think I'll still keep my steel bezel for now and wait to see if Seiko release a black dial/bezel model later in 2021 or excited to see if they introduce a Padi dial MM200 but keeping crown at 4pm. So many special editions they could release in 2021 especially as its a significant anniversary. Also I like the proposed idea of being able to have a choice of movement in your Seiko. It's a great idea. Pay more and have an 8L upgrade without having to stretch to an MM300 or King Seiko/Grand Seiko etc etc

dont mind could you give the dimensions for the spb187 insert just for comparison? i did a measurement of the skx007 bezel and it sits at 31mm ID and 38.5mm OD. these measurements would come in handy for those intending to change to a skx bezel like u mentioned! Thank you!

you noted that you can use the SKX bezel insert, but is that what you did to your watch? or do you own both the 185 and 187 and simply swapped the complete bezels between the two (something I’ve been contemplating doing…)

this bezel is oem 185. There is more visible crystal gap with the skx insert

It looks great. Its actually the combo I was looking for when first looking into the mm200r. But after some thought, I feel it looks too much like the sla021 where it wouldnt make sense have both in my collection. I think seiko did it right as to not cannibalize the sla021 which I feel is the most iconic and quintessential color combo of all the mm300’s

Hi, with regard to fitting a new bezel insert, a silly question, but do you apply it over the existing one, or do you have to prize off the existing one first, and if so (as it's stainless steel) is that tricky?

Yes you must remove the old insert. Step 1 remove the full bezel. Step 2. Remove insert. Step 3. Clean old adhesive and re-install bezel. Step 4. 3M tape new bezel insert.

Interesting mod FT. Not sure about that specific black dial, the bezel appears a bit too glossy for it. Top move to the MM300 clasp. A quick word to the MM200, having mine on the wrist for a week now... Beautiful piece, top case etc.... but I don't know tbh whether I really like it or not. Every time I get one of those mid tier Seikos, I start seeing so many differences to the "real deal" equivalent, that I'm not happy with it anymore. Had that on the SPB153J1 (changed to sla033), on the SPB149J1 (not yet replaced but sold), and now again on the spb187 - that now made me wanna have a sla0xx (not yet sure which one). of course the SLA is always more desirable. I said this mm200 will never replace the MM300 and its true. Your feelings are normal. I like the mix of glossy insert and matte dial. seiko has done this style before on oem watches. and tbh 99% of the time in daily wear they look like a perfect match.

@@EscapementWatch don't get me wrong FT, you know how much I love the brand. And the mid tier Seikos are phenomenal and I think they're worth the money. But it's the little details (not even so much the movement), the size of the markers, the hands, the ratio of all that etc just look way more perfect. OK the finish, too. But that isn't even my complain on the spb series. Oh well... Hard to explain, but I'm sure you get what I mean.

Yes I get what you mean. I look at these and SLA's under macro all day so I get it. Its really not close finishing wise...except the case the case is really well done. But for the price I feel they offer a lot to most seiko fans. When I don't want to take my SLA out and dont mind the watch getting beat up I take my mm200! its my beater!

The sla033 is big, yes, but I was used to it due to my 6105 8110. And as you know, the Willard is different to wear anyway. But the real Marine Master??? Puuuh, chunky piece. But sooooo beautiful.

it would be nice if Seiko finally got through their thick heads that the 6R movement is pathetic in the 1k range and should've never been even remotely considered. if they don't wanna do a "proper" MM300 that can actually be worn by people (the "original" is as much of an ergonomic clusterfuck as it's nicely finished. sold it within a month) with an 8L and finished like the SLAs/SBDXes, they could've at least had the basic decency to put the 6L in it for how much they're charging. this would've been nice for like 600$. for how much they're asking, it feels like highway robbery funny how Seiko have "evolved"... from being best bang for buck to becoming a worse value for money than Brolex. but whatever, they already built their fanboy fanbase that will gobble up everything they make (as this watch proves) and still play "The Seiko QC lottery", lol

Although seiko was forced to move upmarket due to apple and other pressures they still offer some affordable divers. Check out the monster 4th gen you can get them for about $300 on ebay I believe. And as much as I'd like a 6L in these 1k range the reality is I can't complain about my 6R's. All do much better then cosc and are tough as nails and dirt cheap to service. so while it doesn't have the medium sweep it will be more durable with the low beat for sure.
