Escaping bad positions and submissions is a fundamental part of Jiu-Jitsu.
It's usually not one technique that will get you out, but a combination of a series of moves that the attacker is unable to keep up with.
In this video, I start by grabbing my jacket with my endangered arm and I use my other hand/elbow to assist on catching my opponent's leg. This "elbow escape" is my main escape, but I use it in a system with other moves.
It's important to make the attacker uncomfortable at all times, that's why I use some bumps which cause them to be unstable and to fall to either north or south side.
In order to master escapes, I recommend putting yourself in those positions and work your way out. By trial and error, start creating a pattern of moves that will increase your chance of success.
Let me know what you think.
