Look at the ceiling in the storage area as temporary until later ….. put what you love in the laundry area

It’s okay. You’ve insulated and hid the wiring. You’ll have nice lighting. It’s clean. It’s a utility room and you want that clean and secure. You can fix it later on. You might even be able to add battens to it or paint it to make it took better.

When the walls are painted and shelves added the ceiling may not be as obvious, as you say, it is in a private area, but I understand your feelings about it being inappropriate when you have been so faithful to keeping the integrity of the building in all of your other renovations. We all live and learn from our mistakes, but it will be ok don’t beat yourselves up too much, you’re so hard working and true to the building, what you’ve achieved so far is amazing!

I understand how you must feel, knowing how much care and thoughtful planning you put into your work. Lesa, I can listen to your laugh all day long. Don't fret too much about the ceiling material. It is in a non public place, which, as you say, will be used for storage. On camera it doesn't look bad. We learn from our experiences. If you didn't try it, you may have put it somewhere public, and you would be very upset. Great job on getting the plumbing in. I am glad you got your delivery. ❤

There is not a single one of us who has not done something awful and had to live with it. What makes me feel better that I was feeling the same way as I watched it go up. But I had the advantage of watching it go up from a distance. It cheers me up that you saw it and realized. But other readers are right. When the room is filled and working and one is distracted by the shelves and cabinets etc., it will not seem so bad. And you are right. It is a working room, not a public place. And it sure is a huge step up from what was there when you started. Bad would have been that the whole plumbing scheme had to be torn out and rebuilt. So you are ahead and we are all lovingly with you. NO PROBLEM. Just one more thing to learn and that never stops. No children will starve because of it. The sun will shine tomorrow. And your love for each other and working relationship shines. Life is good.

I totally get your frustration about the ceiling. Now it’s done and under the circumstances of where it is, it’s ok. When you showed the finished ceiling at the end, I honestly thought it was going to look much worse. In a private area, no one can judge you but yourselves and I wouldn’t too harshly. And you know what? In the future, it can always be changed. Goodness knows, ...It would be “simple” a job compared with all of the renovations you have already done these past few years! Idk where you find the energy!

It's a good thing you two like each other.👀😍WOWZA does that room look great already! Good choice on that ceiling; it looks like a cheap mobile home. I realize the ceiling is done, but I could you not use muslin or canvas (like theatre flats, Leesa) staple it up, and put several coats of thick size on it? Takes up no headroom and looks okay with the old structure. You could even dye the muslin/canvas. Bessie and Hanz: Why is it that there can be a *huge* pile of sticks and they always want to hang onto the same one? Just like my pack. 🤣Hang in there - it will all look lovely.

Looking at Ted’s T bar made me remember our first house. My husband wanted to put a wide window in place of a very narrow one in what was to be the kitchen. He knocked the hole to size but the whole wall of the house started falling one course of bricks at a time. I was handed a small plank and a broom and was told to hold up the side of the house until he managed to get the window frame in. I can still remember the pain in my arms 50 years later!!!! Ted’s T bar would have been a great help!! Couldn’t you, at a later date, sand the ceiling lightly to give it a key and paint it with a textured paint to look more like the walls.

Lisa & Ted, I'm sorry to say I don't like the ceiling either. The laundry room is so rustic, the ceiling is so modern they don't complement each other. I'm glad you decided against using the modern boarding in the rest of the room. I personally think I would take down the new boarding and use whatever you are going to use in the rest of the laundry room. I think you would regret not doing this as it will always be a torn in your side. I think the white ceiling will forever bother both of you. Even though your visitors won't see the ceiling you both will. Whatever your decision, make the one that will make you both happy. Hugs, Kathy USA

It happens ! I'm just about to rectify something that ended up meaning we are heating 3 floors instead of 2...not sure what I was thinking about !!! One thing Ted said about having to rip the insulation down to plaster between the ceiling joists...not sure why he'd have to do that ? If he screwed lengths of 2x1 on either side of the gap, he could just fix the plasterboard to that (with the existing insulation inside it ?

It's because normally we use a thinner insulation so we can get the boards between the beans so they are still exposed, but this time we bought thicker insulation so you wouldn't be able to put the boards in between but could just board over the top, which I think is the plan for the public side now 👍😁
