Nice idea of putting the cordage inside the pouch. That smaller cord is perfect for this. I have paracord wrapped around my sheath. I’m switching mine out tonight. 👍👍

Hands down this is the best survival knife out there. I replaced the sheath with a small spec ops brand one. The knife fits perfect and the small pouch fits sharpening stone and small fire steel.

NIce video, thank you. I have to get one of those for my ESEE 5. Nice little tutorial on setting up the survival mini kit on the knife. It's late and I will check your other videos for a survival bag or bugout bag videos. I have no idea what goes into one of those. Cheers from America!

Solid video. Solid kit. Have you thought about using a small hacksaw blade as the striker? Could provide an option for limited cutting as well as the striker. Keep up the great content .

Great video. Awesome looking knife, too. And, yep, the tin itself is pretty cool with the crossed knives and 💀. Nice to see the aluminum foil in there. Packs next to nothing and weighs even less. I haven't seen many or possibly any other videos with it. Not familiar with the cordage you have there, but you said it doubles as tinder. Cool, because I have natural jutte (twine) in my kit that is excellent as tinder. A 6 inch section of it, pulled apart and made into what looks like a hairball bursts into flames with just one or two strikes from a ferro rod. My old army survival instructor used that for teaching us the bow drill. Too many other items to comment on, but I really liked how you set this up. Excellent display. Thank you.

I like a kit on a knife sheath. My boys and I used to go for an overnight hike with just a knife and a canteen. We called it a “Survival Kit Campout”. Make a debris shelter, maybe a frog/fish gig. And just use the items in the sheath kit. Great times that helped decide what we needed, and what we didn’t need. With your knife kit, we wouldn’t even need the canteen. 😎

Hi Tom, Esee 5 best in range IMHO, Ive accessorized mine with scales from the knife connection (US) and some excellent fire-steels and ceramic sharpeners with kydex attachments from Sagewood Gear (US), another cracker is the Becker BK72 stonewashed which is next on my list 👍

Nice vid. I have the esse 6 I also have a ER selvanns, Funnily enough, we both wear the same watches. I haven't set up either knife yet. The selvans has a pouch that will hold a bcb survival tin. I'm debating with the esee as I want a sheath to hold a mulitool and then maybe have a pouch that dangles a bit. It's all about finding the right kit I guess. I might get a custom rig made up again in leather but it's obviously cheaper buying bits off the shelf.

Great little kit mate, nice to see somebody's else's take on a knife pouch kit. Only things id say add would be a nice sized needle - repairs + back up compass if magnetised+ blister popper. And maybe one of those trick birthday candles just to save the fuel in that lighter. A couple of depot smarties in that mini first add kit. And thatd probably be your lot. Any chance you could wrap a mylar blanket round the tin or would that be too much bulk ? Apart from that id say well thought out kit. Look forwards to your next vid fella 👍 ATB Rob

After a lot of reading, lifting, feeling etc I am still very conflicted about this knife. I really don't understand where it is supposed to fit it. I know they say it was designed for downed pilots to survive with, but how does that fit in with more mundane outdoors activity? What really set the cat among the pigeons was when I took delivery of my Cold Steel Trail Master, and the instant I picked it up. The balance was PERFECT! Now, with the ESEE 5 this is not the case. It feels like a crowbar, and a short one at that. It balances behind the front of the handle, whereas the TM balances more than an inch along the blade! Yet they weigh almost the same - 16 v 17 ounces. 5" blade v 9 1/2 " blade, which is even thicker than the ESEE 5 blade! the ESEE 5 proportions are all wrong. It is too short to ever be a good chopper. It's too thick and the grind too steep to be a slicer, and that serrated edge! Feathersticking will be a real challenge. The flat grind means it will baton, but not that well, and will need a lot of hard bashing (which it will handle without the slightest problem! It's a monster - super tough!). So where does it fit in? It's not a Large knife (blade is way too short). It's certainly not a great chopper. It's not a utility knife - too chunky. It's certainly no bushcrafter - too heavy and unwieldy. It's great for prying and levering, but how much of that does one do in camp? It can do lots of cutting jobs, and that serrated edge means no rope is safe around it. But overall, it doesn't have a real spot in the range. I saw a video where the 5 and 6 were compared and it actually didn't shine, and the 6 is another "lost" knife - it also doesn't fit in anywhere. One wonders what ESEE had in mind with these two knives. All the others have definite "slots" are clear identities, but these two, and especially the ESEE 5, just don't fit in. A last thought - maybe the ESEE 5 is their take on the "only-one-tool" concept (ie downed pilot scenario)? If so, then yes it fits in there. For the most part, however, for people who plan outdoor ventures, I don't think one should rely on just it. One can always take various knives for different tasks and enjoy doing them rather than "make do" with a tool that doesn't do nay of them well enough. It would be interesting to hear your comments on this. Cheers mate!

The ESEE 5 with the pouch with a fire kit inside is too heavy to put on your belt. Without suspenders it will pull your pants down. I strap mine to the outside of my knapsack. The blade is VERY thick. My favorite is the ESEE 4, which seems just right.
