The ESEE PR4 is a slender woods knife and is part of the ESEE Camplore series. Definitely take a look if you are in the market for a quality Made in the USA knife.

This is the knife Ötzi the ice man 5,000 years ago would choosen vs his flint knife. It's functional and you can back pack it.

TKC has some larger scales that make it much more comfortable for long term use.

1. Many people see this knife and assume the handles are too thin for comfort, but somehow (at least for me), it works. I've used this as my primary belt knife for years now, and have never found the handles to be uncomfortable or to cause hotspots. 2. I used to not like guards either, until I slipped one time (not stabbing) and sliced my fingers bad enough to need stitches, 2 days from the nearest town. You never know.

Irony we can cary a pocket knife which is the same dimmension, but it's too thin? It's an EDC knife if I ever saw one.

One reason I choose this knife, the handle guard. There's never a reason to prevent safety with something so simple, especially in a knife that is meant to be used far away from a hospital.

Great review. Very clear explanation on pros and cons. I have this knife, and for my hand size, it fits comfortably, but like anything else...one size rarely fits all...

Interestingly, the original Kephart seems to have had fairly thin scales.

I’ve read a comment elsewhere about adding some 1/8” liners under the handle scales. That could be a fun little project to mod the knife and make it personal/better.

Just to add how to skin a squirrel. Cut around the neck, gran the skin and pull it off..inside out. Done. My grandma taught me that when I was 8 years old.
