The hump is for inverted skinning, you slide the spine against the meat and push it forward, unzips the skin as the tip stays above piercing height, and you don't cut into organs.

Thanks for another great review. I'd already decided my next knife would be the ESEE JG3 (for an EDC and small carver), now I'm thinking I'll order a JG5 along with it. Something about James Gibson's designs really appeal to me, maybe one day I'll order one of his customs.

My "hobby" for many years was wilderness survival with minimal equipment and a good knife was absolutely essential...I carried a Rigid R1 and still do...A good blade will cost you some money but it's well worth it to avoid failures in serious situations...Though my days in the wilderness are over, due to physical issues this is still a blade I might just treat myself to...I still admire a good useful knife that is well made...Thanks for the tip and review...

@camutk4 жыл бұрын

@firekrakcer4 жыл бұрын
@@camutk light batoning but it's not designed for it. Nessmuk proposed a system now called the Nessmuk trio. He carried a tool for chopping (2 bit hatchet), a fixed blade (this knife's design) and a folder (he called it a strong pocket knife). Each tool has a role and the hatchet would be used for splitting wood.

It's a thick blade. You have no idea what a real slicer is. Try custom hunting knives from true craftsmen, then you might see. That's an esee. They are thick crowbars, even when the spine is only 3mm thick

So it's not the new designer steels....still very serviceable and usefull for their intended hard use and application of bushcraft in the field. Everyone is a keyboard warrior....try some hands on real world use in the field before you critique. There are no one size fits all, doesn't exist in the real world.
