Eskom Load Limiting - how to restrict your inverters grid load

There has been some talk recently about limiting the loads households can put on the grid during peak hours and disconnecting you for short periods of timer if you exceed these limits.

Here is a quick guide as to how to restrict the grid load that your Sunsynk or DEYE inverter puts on the grid so as to avoid being cut off from the grid unnecessarily. Important to bear in mind that the Grid Shaving does not cover loads on your non-essentials so you will need to switch those of manually to ensure that they don't switch on during load limiting periods.
If this practice get's widely implemented by Eskom I am hoping that the integrations will incorporate this ability so we can do some automations to implement it when required in Home Assistant.

Important to bear in mind that the "Grid Shaving" only applies to the "Essential loads", if you have non-essential loads you will need to switch them off manually.

Eskom is load-limit piloting in Fourways, limited to 10 Amps, heard you mention 20 Amps

Hi @Tigershot57 , so if they are restricting to 10Amps @ 230V that would equal 2300W, if you set the max on the inverter @ 2000W you would be fine. The inverter will pull any power it needs above 2000W from your battery, as long as your battery is over the minimum battery setting. It will also recharge to whatever SOC you have in the grid mode settings if you have the charge from grid box ticked.

Are you updating your Time of Use settings directly from Home Assistant?

Hi @craigarenson7036 , you can update your Time of Use settings from Home Assistant depending on which integration you are using. The ESP32 integration has it in on the yaml code from SlipX. Has to be added in extra on the Sunsynk integration and Solarman integration. I am busy working on video an automation to automatically change the battery settings based on load shedding level and solar forecast from Solcast.

@craigarenson7036 Best is to check on the Solarman integration Github page and have a look if there is an option to write the settings there, alternatively have a look on the Powerforum forum and check there. I use the ESP32 which works without any issue.
