Can anyone please explain to me in season 4, just how the hard top roof can fit into the boot for convertible mode, and from the boot comes those giant rocket thrusters for super pursuit mode, from right where the roof would have to slot into?

The super pursuit mode car is just a prop, it doesn't have room for an engine with all the pop out accessories

KITT doesn't exist as a single car. There were over 20 cars used as KITT in filming the series each with different purposes. The convertible was one car. There were two super pursuit mode cars used for filming. One has all of the body extensions permanently attached and had an engine/was driveable. The other without an engine was used to film the transformation. The hydraulics for the transformation sequence took up the engine compartment. Aside from that there were various cars used for stunts, blind drive cars for when KITT drove on his own, etc. You can usually tell if you know what you're looking for. Notice sometimes KITT has T-tops and sometimes he doesn't. If KITT's driving on his own, one of the two front seats is fake depending on the season. Also you'll notice KITT sometimes has a tow bar in front and sometimes doesn't. It's particularly apparent in Trust Doesn't Rust and KITT vs KARR as the same cars are used for KITT and KARR. When they're both on screen at the same time you can look for differences as they obviously couldn't use the "hero" car for both at the same time.

What I was meaning, within the context of the on-screen abilities of the amazing machine, it would be impossible for both the Super Pursuit Mode, and the Convertible mode to exist within the back end of the same vehicle. That is the season I believe that Knight Rider really jumped the shark by putting this all into one vehicle, on screen.
