To be fair, the KITTstang was still developing his personality at this stage. As did the original KITT through the early stages of it's respective first Season. Also, I find that a voice actor is only as good as the director voicing them. Val probably could have delivered a better performance, but he was directed poorly.

New A.I., It most likely for more powerful but it still learning to be more human, the OG has more time to become more human. Also, the OG was on the road more so had more chances to learn how to interact with people.
