I got onto your lectures because I was researching some of the elements of the demons in Warhammer lore. There are so many little references in the lore and the function of warp magic, as well as the names of characters that it is apparent that the writers are knowledgeable on the esoteric. I just wanted to say your lectures have become a staple for my painting listening as your explanations are easy to digest and your voice is perfect for the calming background noise needed for creative work.

I aslo consider myself more an occultist with a strong intrest in Egyption, Kabala, Anochian magic with an understanding in Demonic (know thy enemy) magic. Some if the strangest things I have ever seen in ritual have been in anochian ritual. The flame completely reversing and the tip of the flame pointing down burning downward instead of up. I am so pleased that you have reached the same conclusion about Kelly as I. His account of the finding the red powder (possibly red sulphur) at Northwick Hill is a clear fabrication. He claimed to have been led to it by a Viking, but the area was outside of Danelaw. Whilst a few Vikings may have been found in the broader area, it just seems like a complete fantasy. I find it hard to believe that Sir John Dee was so taken in by him, not least as I have a lot of time for Sir John, but largely for his non-magical contribution to learning.
@JelMain
@JelMain 11 ай бұрын
You'll find that red powder is a form of gold, in certain processes. It's not a catalyst, the heating involved simply drives the mercury off as gas. However, there is a possibility that they may have stripped the electron shells off - Dry Path implies temperatures twelve times higher than Wet Path (conservation of energy, backwards), and as that used wood, firing at 240-300 C, we're talking plasma temperatures. Then, the question's how to annihilate a proton from the nucleus, producing gold. (Hg's AW is 80, Au's 79).

As a practitioner, I think my favorite thing is finding channels like this one, full of academic and logical standpoints on one of the most mysterious forces in our world: Magic or Heka. We need more of this in my opinion, so we can finally craft magical practice into a more scientific and sound logic that everyone can follow if they wish :)
@TheEsotericaChannel
@TheEsotericaChannel Жыл бұрын
I like that you think that any of this stuff is even remotely logically sound
@theyreatinthecatsndogs
@theyreatinthecatsndogs 11 ай бұрын
The guys that invented science were practitioners of hermeticism and alchemy. Science is the logical tool they created. Science is dualistic and about creating a perceived separation of the observer and the observed. Hermetic meditation is about realising the unification of your consciousness with the collective consciousness. Hermeticists believe all of existence literally is consciousness. Hermetic meditation feels expansive. Anyway the point is that to do science you have to do the opposite of what you would do to practise magic how they did. Magic is more a system of self improvement than it is Harry Potter stuff. There is a lot of nonsense too. People don't appreciate alchemy as being a system of mental transmutation because they associate it with "idiots" attempting to turn lead into gold. Also there's a wild theory that those beings John Dee used to commune with the angels were these same orbs that keep showing up that are connected to the UFO phenomenon.
@theyreatinthecatsndogs
@theyreatinthecatsndogs 11 ай бұрын
@@Dowlphin Well science wouldn't exist without magic, and yes magic relies on what is outside of intellectual control. Some of the greatest discoveries in science were revealed to scientists. Like the idea just popped into their head. The DNA double helix was discovered on LSD (I need to fact check that actually). It seems like the initial breakthroughs are achieved in a paradoxical state of consciousness to the typical scientific state of consciousness (the intellectual logical state). All of this you can logic away by saying that their brains were simply working in a different way when they had these insights, and you would be correct, but that doesn't contradict what I'm saying.

Love the lecture! I've just recently started learning about Dee, Kelley and Enochian texts/magic. It's really very interesting but is as confusing at the same time.

From my experience in Enochian Magick, the reconciliation between the mundane world and the Divine Realm is the overwhelming loneliness that the Magician must stretch themselves into being able to endure.

Man if you like grids and cryptography that much, you should honestly get into programming. I didn't start till I was 29, but all the things I learned from my prior magickal studies made it click super quickly. If you're already used to poring through superficially arcane text and reading into its context to extract meaning, you've already achieved the right mindset for a good programmer because most of our job is poring through arcane documentation to find the function or library we need to achieve our goals. Not at all unlike magicians or scholars in other fields. The other bit is learning linguistic idioms and practices, but that also shouldn't be a foreign skill set from your background.

I grew up doing programming as a hobby - mostly in C and C++ - these days I'm interested into retro stuff like machine code for the 6502, etc.

I'm stunned by your revelation that this is itself a highly inclusive synthesis of various earlier magical traditions (but I shouldn't be surprised - aren't we all still looking for a grand unified theory). There is clearly an evolutionary process going on, with different threads of the correspondences being laced together. I would be interested to see how (or if) you see the later work of the Golden Dawn as a continuation of that synthesis or a dilution/pollution of the work of Dee.

When you talk about the angels having musical instruments and flags, I can't help thinking of some celestial marching band performing for deity.

Thank you, Dr. Justin Sledge. . I love your podcasts.The are extremely informative. Have you ever seen Francisco Goya's 1798 paintings up close? Especially Spanish: (Vuelo de Brujas) "Witches in Flight" or "Witches in Air." "Witches of the Sabbath" (Spanish: El Aqauelarre) This last one was purchased in 1798 along with 5 other paintings related to witchcraft by the Duke and Duchess of Osuna. These reflect Goya's disdain for popular tendency towards superstition and the church, which led to medieval fears and depiction of such scenes as medieval fears exploited by the establishment order for political capital and gain. "Satin Eating His Children." It is suggested that Goya might have been a Mason. Whatever, I love all Goya's artwork. In fact, he is my favorite of all the great Masters. I do love e all the great Masters of art, also. They were a delicious pot of stews with hankey pankey here and there throughout the centuries. So be it with religions. Hear! Hear!

@@TheEsotericaChannel it's one of the reasons why I started watching your videos all those years ago now. Years already, btw! But seriously, it's the breath of fresh air needed in a scene that always took itself way too seriously.
