Astrology and Medicine (and Alchemy) has long enjoyed an intimate relationship. In this episode I'll be exploring a 14th century Hebrew text of Medical Astrology, The Kelal Qatan (Brief Treatise), to learn more about the infamous quartan and tertian fever cycle and the interplay between health and the astral world as a companion to my conversation with ‪@TheAstrologyPodcast‬ - • Jewish Views on Astrol...

You have not only inspired me to go back to school and continue my education in history, but you have single handily opened my mind to the greater world at play. Today I ordered my first book that you've gone over in a previous episode (Nag Hamadi library) so thank you!

I wonder how many illnesses were actually caused by these preventative bloodlettings. I mean, it's not like they were boiling the bloodletting device between pokes and it seems like "Well the fevers are coming. Better go poke everyone in the village with my rusty knife box." would just spread the disease around.

This channel, plus the wonderful folks of historical costuming KZbin, are helping me gain what might be a new level of maturity: I am learning that ancient people were basically the same as us, and just as intelligent, and many of their ideas were based in sound logic. In fact, some of them turned out to be correct. As an engineer in training and a scientist of heart, it is a humbling reminder that our newest ideas are not necessarily always better than the old ones. Thank you, Dr. Sledge. 📖

Very interesting. The collaboration with Astrology Podcast was such a great conversation. Lovely to have such an informed and lengthy video. I’m learning so much about astrology I had no idea about. Great stuff. And I loved the jokes.

@@TheEsotericaChannel I purchased it yesterday when you posted the topic on KZbin I immediately went to purchase the book. Thank you. My Kabbalah is based on a what I wish to think as a rational view of planetary representations of Kabbalah but there are holes. So need to see the Jewish interpretation of astrological alchemy to make it more logical.

Well, I am over a year late but I made it. Thankfully you have quite the catalog of subjects! I have been studying astrology for about a year and I am proud to say it is finally making sense! Now I have to go back and rewatch all your astrology content. Thank you for all your hard work.

Thanks for that! Always enjoyable as much as informative. They were just on the cusp during the 14th century of understanding extraction and distillation, unlocking the potential of herbs and the chemical constituents held within. Treatments and the true methodical assessment through cause and effect. Microscopy was just so close in the natural evolution of discovery. Just amazing!

The moon and urine charts remind one of modern time ovulation and pregnancy testing basics. The device you displayed on the other hand would have no logical correlation to the subject of pregancy.Menstruation on one hand is also affected by the moon cycles.Much to ponder.

Interesting in that this ties in closely to Sunnah (according to the prophet Muhammad SAAWS) prescription that there are particular days of the week and dates of the month when Hijama (dry cupping) is most beneficial, and when it is not so. Being that like the ancient Hebrew calendar, the Hijri (Islamic) calendar is lunar as well.

I am new to Esoterica, but I find it very informative. Thank you. Also: do you think you could ever teem up with an astrologer to go over your own chart for a video. I find it fascinating how you follow tradition yet keep your personal beliefs (or lick of them) separate. Also your delivery method, although monotone on the surface, is truly witty and even hilarious at times (at least you’ve made me smile a few times)… it would be fantastic to know the astrological influences at play that made you… (are you an Aquarius ♒️ by any chance?) Keep up a great work! And Thank you!

I can tell you that temporal therapeutics are scientifically valid. I have studied anatomy and physiology and I understand that a woman goes through a menstrual cycle every month. I have studied endocrinology and I know for a fact that cortisol is released periodically at certain times of the day. This, specific times have specific influences on the body. Astrology is merely the advocacy of a sideral calendar as oppose to the more commonly accepted solar and lunar calendars. However, this sideral calendar is much accurate albeit more complex than the other two.

When you mentioned Pythagoras, the first thing that came to mind was a Frasier Episode. Frasier: So when Billy Kriezel tried to stuff you into you locker after math class, he wasn’t really mad at you, he was mad at Pythagoras. Niles: Which is ironic, because a simple volume equation would have shown him I couldn't fit.

One event in the Bible that intrigues me is when the Pharaoh's advisers fail to interpret his dream but Joseph does not, suggesting that even though the standard of dream interpretation was so high back then that charlatans could not be mistaken for the real thing, it still couldn't compare to God's truth. From this perspective Maimonides' objection makes total sense, he sees astrology as a very popular but mediocre substitute for God.

Happy for the nod to pseudo-science, because modern medicine (or chemistry, or astronomy) does not happen in a vacuum. It's way too easy to discard the pseudosciences without giving them any kudos for at least getting the ball rolling. So yay that doctors no longer resort to blood letting (although from the looks it could be like a human blood tapper, kind of like the maple from trees...) Excellent video!
