A real breath of fresh air production, well done Jenny and all. Now looks like I will have to procure and evaluate ESP. Several items on my layout are already controlled by wireless, turntable, building lighting etc so ESP looks to have a place? Don W. Dunedin NZ

Great vid, bit of fun & makes a point (excuse the pun). There are some miserable old gits out there who have no sense of humour at all. Our hobby is supposed to be fun & give us a break from reality. Keep it up guys. Well done, Great range of accessories.

Well - we had a huge amount of fun making it - and Hornby Magazine think it's good fun too - they've chosen it to go in their showreel for the Great Electric Train Show next month!

Could this system be used with Kato turnouts? I have about 40-50 turnouts that are wired in for standard Kato turnout switches.

As long as your KATO turnouts have accessory decoders, then yes it can. Get in touch with us if you want to know more about how to achieve this.

Hi Alan We made this video for a bit of fun. You will also find a full video about ESP and an interview with Howard Smith which explains everything in full. Kind regards Richard

Having seen this video and now the interview video with Howard from BRM I am totally confused. Due to life and commitments I have only been able to read about model railway layouts. Having recently retired I now have all the time to devote myself to building my first model railway. It is a N gauge layout and I have already started it. Its going up in the loft and the layout measures 40' x 8' approx. The layout is DCC and will be operated with NCE Power Cab for trains only. Point operation will be on a separate panel. I will be using solenoid point motors as I think the moving of the point is more realistic this way. I was originally looking at the Alpha system but having seen the ESP video, 1/ I am very interested, 2/ Even more confused. In the video with Howard, the first control panel is the old one with all the wires. The second control panel with just power and command wires, is that the Alpha system? The third panel quite clearly being the ESP system. Apologies for being so dense, just want to get this right as this will be a huge investment for me. The receiver goes inside the control panel, and is connected to the transmitter which operates the points, yes? So one receiver goes to one transmitter which in turn controls three separate points, yes? If so how does the transmitter connect to the solenoid point motor and the power source. Was looking for a diagram but can find nothing. Told you I was thick. If the second control panel is Alpha, what is the difference in price between the Alpha and ESP system although I must admit I am leading towards the ESP system. Regards Chris

Hello Chris, Using traditional control methods, this would usually result in 2 wires (plus the common) per point from the control panel to the layout and potentially another 2 wires from a microswitch on every point back to the control panel to illuminate an indicator LED. Using Alpha, this is reduced to 1x command wire (which plugs in next to your PowerCab) and 2x track/accessory bus wires - so 3 cables from your control panel to your layout. This assumes the use of digital point motors which are connected to the track/accessory bus around the layout. Using ESP, the transmitters are in the control panel - these *transmit* the instruction from the switch change to the layout. The receiver (only 1 is required) is on the layout. This *receives* the instruction from the transmitters and issues an accessory command down your accessory or track bus to your DCC point motors. The 2nd receiver (in the control panel) is solely for the purpose of changing the indicator LEDs - this isn't necessary if you don't mind a track/accessory bus wire connection as the LEDs will respond to the same accessory command as the point motors. Alpha and ESP assume the use of digital point motors. If you have analogue motors, then you would need a decoder for each motor to link it to your track/accessory bus. ESP therefore results in no wires from your control panel other than a power input (for which we used a 12v rechargeable battery - but you could use a similar voltage from a regulated power supply - or you could power from your layout DCC power). Cost-wise for an example of 12 switches at UK pricing including VAT: Alpha would be 1x DCD-AEU (£59.95), 1x Mimic LED pack (DCD-MPRG in this case) (£59.95), 1x Connection Cable (DCD-ACL) (£7.95) plus the toggle switches of your choice and the making of the physical panel - so the component cost is approx £127.85 ESP would be 4x Transmitters (each one can take 3 switch inputs) (DCC-ESPS.12) (£149.95), 1x Receiver for your layout (DCD-ESPR.1) (£49.95), 1x Mimic LED pack (DCD-MPRG) (£59.95) - so the total cost would be approx £259.85, plus the toggle switches of your choice and the making of the physical panel. As an example of a wiring diagram, we have put together this PDF which should be of assistance: www.dccconcepts.com/esp-ip-digital-mimic/ I hope this helps! Kind regards Richard Brighton DCCconcepts

Ok the comical bygone era presentation was probably good in theory but awful in practice, I lost interest quite rapidly and it took away the message but just my opinion.
