ESP8266 WiFi Display

A how to guide using an ESP8266 Wemos D1 Mini board to control a 20x4 character i2c LCD to display a webpage.
The ESP8266 can be programmed like an Arduino and even use the Arduino IDE.
This will display the contents of a webpage, I am using a quick PHP script to generate 4x20 character segments that is easily parsed to the lcd by the Wemos board.
Instead of a PHP script, any other webpage could be used instead.
I use the i2c Scanner sketch to find the LCD address playground.arduino.cc/Main/I2c...

How do you check if the LCD is working? I can not get the LCD 20x4 backlight to come on to save my life. its at 0X3F address as well. I checked.

I understood the first part but don't know about PHP can you tell me how to do that right from the bottom

if i cant use i2c converter is it possible to use lcd with wemos dimini????

Hi Mikel, I am trying to do your project as practice, and I have everything set up ( heroku, spark, etc) but when I try to connect , the Arduino keeps saying "connection refused" on the terminal. Not sure what is causing it. Awesome video btw!

Have you tried connecting to the service from just your web browser or using curl? If it doesn't work from from those, then you might not have the address right or it might not be running on heroku correctly.
